*** CSLR Challenge 60 Voting Thread ***

...it is what it is, let the images and votes fall where they may...there is no unwinding this knot, so, IMHO, it is best left alone.

And, as Victor correctly notes, this stands as a true testiment to Chaos.

All is as it should be.

(and you were a wonderful Host).

Best wishes,

There were two shots I particularly remember. The first was a wonderful candid portrait of a little girl that you took with your bigma. It accompanied a rather long treatise on how you wouldn't expect the bigma to be such a good portrait lens. It got me thinking about how improvisation could make any lens the right lens as long as it was in the hands of a competent photographer. Sort of a "choose your own adventure" thing. Now turn to page 20, where you will be either pulled apart by monkeys or you will find a great shot.

The second, and forgive me if I don't get the details right since I'm starting to suffer from CRS, was a shot called Morning Glory (?) that was a bit post processed but it seemed to gleam supernaturally. When I happened upon it, it hit me in such an odd way that it's never really left me. It fit Grant's comment later on of "you don't need more light, you need better light" It pushes me to work with what I have and make the best of it.

As I said before, I'm a bit of a lurker. Actually, stalker might be closer to the truth. I'm kinda creepin myself out here. ;)

And now you need to read the post I made while you were writing yours :)

http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1019&message=17097203

It is all just so darn perfect!

And keep in mind that I'm always grouchy wihen I wake up. Especially when I've been sleep deprived. So that adds to the chaos too.

Sorry for the very self-centered "Why Me" tone of that last post. Feeling sorry for one's self is not very attractive, is it?

Oh well, at least with the posts to this forum, you can't go in and edit them after the fact.

"Captured Chaos".

At this point, I believe I shall sit back and enjoy the chaos. It really is all very appropriate and a wonderful example, in so many ways, of the very complex and chaotic ways that people interact with each other.

And you thought predicting the weather or modelling turbulent flow was difficult! How would you like to be a social psychologist?

I just had to share this shot, taken within the challenge period, by the way. I think it's the best thing I've done for months. That's all lens, no photoshop trickery involved - except for the sharpening - and the cloning - and the cropping..... Well, you get the idea. I love that 10-22 lens!

I was formulating a way by which I could describe the push-pull group dynamic I saw, and I think you've made that unneccessary.

Also, there is by it's very nature a tendency for group dynamics to push away those who are vastly different. It's fascinating to me in cases where vast creative differences are considered an asset, such as in photographic art. What happens to the group dynamic then? Is there a line in the sand whereby you can be different only by so much, and then at which point you're no longer "cool" to the art mindset? Such tangents take up way too much of my idle thoughts... ;)

I'm awake now and I'm all better.

I can think of no finer thing to do than to do nothing. (And no easier thing to do either ;)

This really is all such an exquisite example of chaos on many levels.

Not bad. Not bad at all.

I think the ball is hitting the board, so to speak. In fact, I think that should be a new catch-phrase. Wow, two good catch phrases:

"Hey, man, if the boss catches us, the ball is really going to hit the board!"

"I can think of no finer thing to do than to do nothing."

...is how I interpret your post, Rob, which I'm sure is how you intended it. Your post is also incredibly arrogant.

There's little I have in this life which I value as much as my integrity. You have no right to impugn it with your generalized statements about challenge participants.

She's got spots in her mouth and on her toes, everywhere. And, she's a real cuddly bear to boot!

....It's not like Lonnit is a wilting lily or anything, she says what she wants...lol...and then some, (grin).

But even putting Challenge 57 up to dispute...really has got to fry her gonads. Gads, I don't want to be near Lonnit when she reads these posts...lol

I went back and checked Challenge 57. I voted for four of the top five and Lonnit certainly did deserve to win, (though I still have a compelling fondness for Michael Puff's Breakfast of Champions).

But even with my fondness for Breakfast...Lonnit still deserved to win.

Life is crazy...that's the only thing I know for sure...lol

The highest ranking of any image I voted for is 12th (in Eligible), and my absolute favorite has a rocking 2 votes now and languishes in 19th. Meanwhile it's the usual mix of staged shots, Photoshop manipulations and black & white cliches at the top. Sigh.

At least I voted, right? That gives me a right to complain!

I don't know what the deal is with "Theory" because I haven't been around much. I'm not sure of this alleged clique, but I am sure that the voting results are almost always disappointing.

Does anyone else see what I saw in the compostion of "fire" in Exibition? I swear it's as clear as day that it's a lady in an evening dress and a wrap leaning over a short podium.

Of course, it could be that my medication is wearing off...

It looks like she's bending to look at or smell a large flower. Truly, that is amazing!

Was that totally accidental, or...??

I used to be actively involved in the artcar community. And the ineresting thing about artcar people is they're used to being the only ones who do such wacky stuff. Then, there's an event like the artcar parade and ball in Houston, and suddenly you have a group of creative, independent weirdos surrounded by like mindedness. For once they're in the group, yet they never are.

The first year I was involved, there was a caravan that started in Vancouver, BC, down to LA, then across to Houston, picking up more artcars all along the way. If someone wanted to eat or had car trouble or something, we'd all pull over. That was not hard to coordinate. The hard part was getting started again. Nobody took direction from anyone else easily.

...an old lady, bent over carrying a smaller person on her back. Leaning over a large tulip.

I've been having weird dreams lately, probably inspired by the CSLR galleries ;-)

Jim,

I just set the fire and then started shooting. Wish I could say I did something special.

Here is the picture for those who did not see it.
