My S20 is too cool!

I've had my S20 for 6 months. I've become dissatisfied with the fact that the images appear very "cool" when compared with my friend's Nikon CoolPix 995. Now that I've started to print the pictures (Photoshop 6 to adjust, and an Epson Photo 890 on Epson paper), I'm even less happy - producing pictures which cost me hard cash which I really feel could be better.

Before I change my camera, are there any simple fixes which I can use in Photoshop to improve the "warmth" of my pictures? I know this is a difficult, subjective question, but I assume there are some other S20 users who have faced the same problem
Thanks
Richard

Dude! Sweet! Excellent! Rock on! Totally radical!
Er... you were referring to the color temperature... oops...

Anyway, one quick fix is the Levels or Curves command in Photoshop. If you select the grey eyedropper in the dialog box, you can select a color from your image that you want to force to neutral. Then you can select the individual channels and fine-tune the results.

If your images are too cool, you can select a color that's just lightly blue, and it'll make the image a bit closer to red/orange/yellow.

You can also skip the whole eyedropper thing and adjust the channels on your own (though I find it useful to have at least a suggestion of what needs to go where).

If you end up with a combination you like, you can make it into an action and apply it consistently on your photos.

Search in this forum for S20 blue cast or magenta problem. There have been lots of solutions posted. Especially in 2000 and the first six months of this year.

I use PhotoGenetics and get great results.

First you may want to play
a bit with your WhiteBalance
control. That solved the pro-
blem for me when I bought
my S20 a year and a half ago;
and was happy with its colors
ever thereafter... (e.g. start
using "cloudy" even in bright
sunshine.)

Hope this helps you too,
Daniel B.

As mentioned in other replies, this has indeed been covered before. Just to summarize though, the easiest thing to do is, go into the LEVELS menu in photoshop, select the Blue channel, and move the slider around till your images lose their "cool" cast.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I've been trying to "lose the blues" with my otherwise-excellent S20 for ages (or at least for many months). I tried to do it via Photoshop Elements' color correction section, without success. I never thought to do it in "levels". It works like a charm, it's quick, and my S20 shots are outstanding now.
