viewfinder sees light and movement but it as a psychedelic scramble.
Is there a way to fix this?

I tried removing batteries. Got clear picture for about 1 sec then back to gibberish.
Help. Leaving monday for cruise.
thanks

If it still takes photo reagrdless of "preview" being corrupted it might be that something in part which outputs image to EVF or LCD is broken. (apparently everything, including menus is corrupted)

Problem in Sony's sensor would cause also photos being corrupted. (while menus would work and previously taken shots could be viewed)

should add that if i release the shutter it records properly. The
gibberish is present in both the eyepiece and the screen.

Image Playback is normal.
I read previous reports that the EVF connector can get loose on the 7Hi which leades to scrambled signal or no signal to the EVF. But you are saying that problem happens with both EVF & LCD. I am assuming that the playback on both is normal.

This might mean either a software glitch or a hardware problem.

If it is a software glitch, then reset the cmaera to factory defaults, take out the battery and leave it like that for 24 hours. Then put in the battery and reset again to factory defaults and see what happens.

If that doesn't work then there maybe something wrong with the circuit that sends the signal from the CCD to the EVF & LCD and the only solution would be to send it in to KM for service.

Sorry about your problem, hope you get it sorted out.

This sounds like the same problem my D 7i developed. It is apparently a CCD flaw which was the subject of a settlement in which Sony (original suppliers to Minolta of CCDs) agreed to repair the CCD (even if out-of-warranty) for free. In fact, they paid for shipping both ways, emailing me a UPS pre-paid shipping label to their facility in Laredo, Texas. I got the camera back, fixed, very promptly.

I am less happy, though, about the fact that they are, apparently not making parts available, at least not in the case of the EVF eyepiece surround.
