I'm just about to order a 2gb card... is the 7D capable of using the Ultra 111 write speeds?

See the CF chart at http://www.dyxum.com

The Sandisk Ultra II seems to be about optimum in KM dSLRs.

The Extreme 3 series cards are a tiny bit faster, but probably not worth the extra cost.

Sandisk seem to be the most reliably fast cards. Others (e.g. Lexar) can match them but you have to be very careful to get the right model.

I thought I'd read something like that somewhere.. I'll send for the Ultra ll then, thanks.

Just ordered one from digital-cameras.com, only £69.

I'm doing my nephews wedding in may, so I want plenty of memory before downloading to laptop. This will give me a total of 4.25gb... enough to do it all in RAW + JPEG.

Damn that's cheap. I payed like double the price for it. Didn't do some heavy research though, just bought it from where I bought the camera. Purchased a 7D the day before yesterday and it will arrive sometime next week. I'm excited ;)

The dealer I got mine from does the 2gb cards at 2 1/2x the price I sent of for.

You wont be disapointed with your 7D... I like mine for handling as much as an XD7- a long time ago!

I have both Extreme III and Ultra II. On my 5D, there is no noticable difference in terms of writing or reading. Both are 1G CF card. It was said that better to have 2 1G card than 1 2G card. I guess for the thought of in case something bad happens, you wont have a "total lost" result. :)

The Ultra II 2GB is $90 at adorama, and the Extreme III 2GB is 110. Seems like a good idea to get the faster card for just a little bit more. the faster card might/probably will be faster in your next dSLR.

I just ordered the Extreme III :-)

Allan,

The 2 GB Extreme III seems to be going for $219 at Adorama. Was this a typo on your part? I'd be interested if it is going for $110.

Thanks,
Albert

There has been a considerable drop in price recently, but avaibalility became a bit on and off since. I have just bought my 4GB Extreme III, which costed me less than 200 euro without shipping. (This is in Germany.)

Regarding size. I had a 2GB Extreme III until now, but it happened that I was shooting live performance and I missed the crucial moment, because the card became full. (Appr. 165-170 frames in RAW+jpeg mode.) Seeking to find the perfect moment meant that I was shooting a lot and could not really take the time to review and delete. Concllusion: I would go for a super high capacity card (and a somewhat more moderate capacity one as a back-up).
