Sky High ! ( 3 pictures )

For #2, I did Panning with the camera. It's an itneresting shot.
Hi pondria,

In my eyes #2 is the most inresting.

On behalve of the bird all three are technical OK, but wouldn't
expect it otherwise, as you made these.

Thank you Adrienne ( Are you a lady ? ) !

Yes, it's quite amazing how the animals optimize their bodies for their survival.
Pondria,

Sadly, I'm a 56K person (not for long, I hope), but it was well
worth waiting to see these pictures. I like them all, but my
favorite is #1: I feel that I learned more about the bird from this
one -- love the curl at the tip of the wing. Your work always
amazes me.

Hi Pondria,

Excellent work as always. I really like the first one, very dynamic and almost hawk like. Please keep up the good work and keep sharing them with us.

Pondria,
  1. 1 for sure. I'd be interested in the shutter speeds and settings to capture these -- I knew D30 was the still portrait dream machine--but you are showing it does motion quite well. The photographer helps of course. My impression is that D1x might be the motion photographers dream choice--but hey--who can shell out $5K?
Keep shooting these moving animals -- these pics are very nice.

I agree that backgrounds enhances the picture. Green background tree would have been better.
Sorry to 56K folks for 3 images.
I had fun with flying seagulls. Pick your favorite !

Pondria,

It was Aperture priority AE with f/5.6. Shutter speed was, I think, around 1/500 or above. I used AI-servo mode to track the focus.
I knew D30 was the still portrait dream
machine--but you are showing it does motion quite well.
Well, it's not as fast as 1D or D1x. But you can still do somethings. The AI-servo mode kind of works OK.
The
photographer helps of course. My impression is that D1x might be
the motion photographers dream choice--but hey--who can shell out

For the "anticipated" motions, D30 probably is OK. But you are right. It's not a very fast camera.
Keep shooting these moving animals -- these pics are very nice.
Thanks ! I can guarantee that I'll keep shooting.

Thank you ! By the way, are you the Copyrighted JimK or just JimK ? You should be just JimK. Otherwise, we will be in deep confusion.
