What Should I Buy? I Want Only the Best!

That great for the field but if he is really serious for indoor snap shoots he will need something along the lines of Sinar P2 with the film plane metering probes and Schneider lenses. Also probably need a Imacon scanner to bring those shots on film into the computer so hat he can then take the file to Kmart to have prints made. For any digital work he will need Sinar's line of digital lenses along with the 54M digital back. For Tripods nothing but a Reis will do A j100-2 with the A250*2 head. For indoors probably get by with a Linhof Studiomatic at only 9K.

Nah, you need a Hasselblad with a nice phase one back like I got, and a Zeiss 40mm CFI lens,

It'll set you back just under $45,000, but what the hell ?

Use Bjørn Rørslett's lens reviews as your guide.

I want to start doing photography. I decided to buy the best stuff
since money is no object. Is the following the best?

D2X
Which lenses are the best? I want all lenses from wide to long. I
know I have alot to learn. I want people to see that I'm serious
about photography and want them to think I'm good. That's why I
want to be seen with the best gear. I joined a class and I need
all this gear before the class so the teacher thinks I'm serious.

I will probably start buying all the PRO zoom lenses and get rid of
the ones I don't like.

What else do I need besides PRO camera and PRO lenses.

I just bought a $3500.00 computer and am learning that now so I
have the tools for the pictures.

I think photography will be fun!

Once you get the gear, you have to focus. If you want to be an art photographer you'll need a girl with fake tits so you have something to shoot. If you want to be a landscape photographer you'll need a VW van and a lot of pot. If you want to be a photojournalist you need a photo vest, a beret and you'll have to start chainsmoking.

You can buy a crown - it doesn't make you king!

If you're new into photography you should start taking good pictures with a single prime lens and buy more exotic stuff as you advance.

What an arrogant SOB. I wouldn't worry about him posting any results because his D2X won't come out of the P mode for at least a year.

If you truly want to become a photographer and receive any help on this forum, a little humility and modesty will get you a long way. By you coming off as you have, all you are going to be told is to pack some Phoenix sand. You can buy "all the best equipment" in the world, it won't impress your instructor. What impresses people are end results. I have been doing this for years and still have so much to learn so your little photography class at your community college isn't going to make you an Ansel Adams. The camera is a tool. I can teach a monkey how to swing a hammer but only an architect and a craftsman can build a house. Think about that before you start rubbing peoples noses in how much money you have...or whose credit card you...ah, nevermind.

You don't learn golf by buying the most expensive clubs and playing at St. Andrews in Scotland, do you? So you shouldn't buy the best stuff to make people think you know what you are doing. Because they will THINK you know and when they ask you things or come to you for advice you'll look like a donkey and that'll be FAR worse than buying a starter camera and learning photography.

You may actually be lousy at photography! So why spend all the money before you even make an attempt? You always need to grow into a hobby.

I bought my Drebel & kit lens nearly 2 years ago because it was cheaper than the D70 (plus there were too many complaints about D70 image quality and moire). I could have not liked it and bought nothing more. But I now have 5 other lenses plus a film SLR. Grow into your hobby. Don't overwhelm yourself with a camera with all the features. You need to learn the basics and then appreciate more options/settings.

Come on guys, I'm really serious here. I need to know what is the best because I don't want it to break. I don't want to spend anymore than probably $25,000. I want to buy it once and then learn composition.

I used to draw pretty well when I was young so I think I have what it takes to be a PRO.

Thanks for all the suggestions so far.

.. do go there because only Canon has full frame sensor cameras. Any other dSLR and you'll have to do something like Math to figure out what you're actually going to get when buying lenses.

honestly if you want the best get a hasselblad digital camera. if that isn't an option and you want the best, get a Canon 1Ds Mark II. The build from there. the 16-40 L 2.8 for starters.

If I was to start over from scratch that's the route I'd go. Now for what it's worth the D2X is a GREAT camera, certainly nikon's top of the line flagship offering. Both camera systems offer strong pros and cons; but in my opinion the pro market has spoken and they've said canon (at least in terms of percentages). That said, my feeling would be canon will offer you flexibility in hardware and software support, including 3rd party, that honestly you'll have a tough time matching.

Of course this is simply my opinion.
