A bit off topic but I got sick of will the new 35D have...

I am a fan of the TV program CSI. However, when watching, it makes me wonder why we need zoom lens as they seem to have software that can zoom (yes mine can do that too) but then increase image quality at the push of a button. There is no, lets try tweak this and maybe a bit of that. Just push the "magic" button and you can see the criminals face reflected in the window which is reflected of the shiny ceramic lamp. Considering all the poor quality CCTV pictures of criminals you see on the news it must be fake

Question 1a. - is this all make believe or can you get software that can improve picture quality that much.

Question 1b - What are the best tools to use in Photoshop to do this kind of zoom and tweak.

Question 2. - Do they use Nikons

Question 3. - Do you think the new 35D will have ... Just kidding.

They need the software coz they use Nikon :-)

The software is funny.. zoom in on that.. bzzz.. done.. lol.. FBI may have some clever algorithem software for this kind of thing.. but in photoshop.. if the info aint there it aint there..

sharpen.. contrast.. may help a picture.. but it wont give you more pixel info..

hahahahah.

They can take the crappiest VHS tape, and resolve faces out of it.

While there will be thoughts that the fbi or whoever has the software to do amazing things, the world is so open with the internet, that it would be out there. Either "stolen" from the agency, or it would just be written by some other smart kid.

You cant get data, from where data is.

Sure, you can use fuzzy logic to aproximate data, but it will not be acurate.

The CSI shows are tv shows, and have quite little to do with reality. Still, they are fun to watch.

Photos are not pixels.
Do you believe in chance, or f/8?

and they have DNA results by the next commercial when in reality takes weeks or months under normal circumstances!! Gotta love those show, though!

You mean that the US police don't solve all of their murder cases in one or two days???

I was just wondering how much sci fi they were introducing for a good story. I knew the speed of DNA tests was wrong and I think the speed of the finger print database as well.

Still I was hope as sometimes you take a photo and there is something interesting in the background but you just cant enhance it enough to even make it worthwhile for the web.

Criminals have been aquitted in what used to be open and shut cases because the jurors wanted more "CSI" like evidence. Everything on tv is gimmicky and pompous I can't bare to watch...I'm not even old!!

There are so many logical holes in that show I can't stand to watch it even for a minute. In good Sci-Fi, there's some kind of logical consistency within the framework of the reality that the story creates, but in CSI, they just depend on the audience buying whatever nonsense they provide, just to get to the solution. Then you throw in all the silly psychobabble and the impression that all the characters has the same personality....

I just don't get it.

geez, where are the Neurotics?

Dont you all know the the NSA can watch you eating a cheese sandwich from a Geo-synchronous satellite? and tell what type of mustard you used!

Resolving a license plate at 100 meters through a rain spattered security cam is a trifle! (and why does it rain so much in Las Vegas?)

this up today. I heard on the news this morning that law inforcement was begining to complain that CSI was helping the criminal type cover his tracks better.
Not sure how true this is and she did not say what agency complained.

Do you also believe that Wyle E. Coyote can run straight off the edge of a cliff and keep going? I saw that on TV!

The CSI thing is fiction. Toxicology tests take weeks, not minutes. DNA tests take days, not seconds. Fingerprint matching is not pushbutton quick. And as far as photography, they just point and shoot without regard for making sure the camera is exactly perpendicular to whatever surface they are shooting. And did you ever notice that their flashes recharge in a nanosecond so they can take bursts with flash? Real life it ain't.

people tell me to 'go to L.'
