Is anyone else waiting on a 707 from Dell and does anyone know if they are aware of the issue? I am going to try and contact them today to see what they know. Does anyone have the email address for the reps at Dell that sold to many here on the forum?

I have a Dell order for an F707... status changed today from 10/28 to "call for ETA"...

honestly, you are wasting your time calling for an ETA... they are just going to be pulling a date out of their a* .

If I had to guess I would say that the Dell orders are about 2 weeks out. It won't kill me to wait another 2-3 weeks to save $200+ on a camera... it's not like ANYONE has fixed cameras right now.

Once Sony starts cranking up production of fixed cameras it will still take a long time to manufacture enough to replace all the bad ones that retailers already had in stock... since Dell apparently never had any in stock in the first place they are going to be low on the food chain for new cameras.

Clifton@ extension 60276 checked with his manager and they have no idea about any recall, other than the imfamous exploding battery issue. If it is truly a SONY recall, it will show up on the Dell website. It is not there, yet. But it is very hard to believe that SONY would fail to notify Dell, on the other hand, so it is a bit of a puzzle. My camera is scheduled to ship today, and I will just return it if it has the BFS problem. Dell will provide a return mailer, etc, along with the RMA. Clif says it will be several weeks before any current Dell orders are shipped, and I like the $200 off retail I got for the DSC F-707.

Yeah, I still get -

Currently one or more items are not available. Every effort is being made to complete your order.

Estimated ship date: 11/1/2001

hehe, I am in no rush. Saved $200 bucks + on it so I can wait. I am not expecting it to ship on that date either. I agree as well, if it has the said problem it will go back. simple!

I don't get any indication that Dell ever had any F707 stock in the first place, so I'm not surprised at all that they don't know about a recall.

Waiting is okay...unless Dell decides to cancel your order like they did to someone else on this forum. Then you're sol. FYI - if you want to price match at Sears, they usually like to see a print out of your order receipt with the current day's date on it, to show that the order is still in place.

Just something to consider.

we should be careful in our words. there is NO indication from anyone at Sony that the f707 has been recalled. only that they are aware of a problem, that it MAY have been fixed in production, and that they are likely trying to figure out what to do with those early buyers who have cameras impacted by the issue. the fact that best buy has taken them off the shelves is a best buy only policy, at least so far.

i just hope sony replaces them, and quickly...i've gotten no indication from sony that they have reached any decisions.

My reading also. And, speculating...: unless Sony knew all along about the BFS issue and was working on it from day one, I doubt that the turn-around delay for a production change is quick enough that "revised units" could already reach us.

Ordered 10/17, delayed to 10/29, still shows that on the computer, but Dell rep says "11/8".

I'm not holding my breath.

Geez. Reading this thread I'd have to guess that those of us who have stayed with Dell through missed ship dates have to be the most reasonable crowd in all the forums. To get an idea of what I'm talking about, check out the E-20 review reactions in the Oly SLR forum today.

Anyhow, I emailed my Dell rep this morning when I saw the "call for update" message. He mailed back within an hour that my date had moved to November 19. No mention of any recall, or any other reason for that matter. Like others here, no big hurry for me when I'm saving this much, although if it isn't here by Thanksgiving I'll probably give up and buy one retail because I want some time with the camera before Christmas visitations. But if it does show up, like all of you I am hoping to get a 707 that won't have to go in for repairs right away. That would suck.

Yeah, I have a similar result as well. My Dell order changes the date every couple of days except for the last week or so. It was changing between Nov. 9 and Oct. 29. Today it says it will ship Oct. 29, but, I think it will probably ship later. Whether that camera will have the BFS issue is another concern.

Yeah, the fact that we are willing to wait for $200 shows we are more sensible than most. I too am a bit tired of the non stop BFS rants on here.

Come on people!

1. At this time there is NO concrete evidence that BFS is a problem with all 707's.

2. Sony have not confirmed any recall on the 707.

3. If you have not been told by Best Buy to your face that they have taken 707's off shelves I would take that with a grain of salt.

4. If you get the 707 and it is not what you expected. SEND IT BACK! But, don't send it back because of unsubstantiated gossip.

5. Take pictures! Have Fun! ;)

And to the guy that paid a restocking fee!! That is the dumbest thing I have ever heard and you need to go back to that store and demand your money back.

Now, tea time.

;)

I was willing to wait for $200 as well, but figured I'd see if Sears would match the price. They did, so I have my 707 earlier than I had thought I would.

My camera doesn't have it (testing with flash against a white wall).

I've been doing a lot of that. It is a great camera.

http://phred.org/~alex/pictures/aquarium/ has some pictures from my aquarium shot with the 707. These are all from the weekend that I got the camera, so I'm still experimenting with it. The first one reminds me that I need to put a bubble level on the ballhead for my tripod.

I called it a few days ago.I said they knew and would provide a fix.I had the camera , it was not even close. They had no legal way to fight a return and they ultimately did or will do the right thing .I don't know exactly when they knew , but Sony did not become Sony waiting for us to tell them about their items problems.Still I am sure sites like these help them maintain good feedback about their products.Everyone did a good job here talking about this.If it was not for this website, I would not have lost 60 dollars in internet shipping wanting to have this camera first.Still I am glad I know which camera I am going to get when its fixed. -mike
