On ritzcamera.com they now list the S30. Strange is that they
say ships in 7-14 days. Anyone know the date it's supposed to
be available? According to the original press release should be
same as S40 (which would be in about 2 weeks probably).

I have ordered things from vendors that says "usually"... and it clearly did not come when it was supposed to. I think this is somewhat deceptive. I clearly prefer B and H's web site. When they are out of stock or do not yet have the product, it clearly states so. I would call Ritz's 800 number and ask if they are in stock. I would bet no. Also, the S40 was to be released slightly sooner from my understanding. I have a D30 but have been thinking of the S30 for my wife. That is why my interest. mark

Go to techbargains.com, get a coupon for Dell.com, go to accessories, and you will find the Canon Powershot S30 listed. 20% off. Sale ends today (10/28). You must click on the buy icon to see the discounted price. ETA 11/5/01. Dell is trustworthy, but you must have patience with them. However, they did send my G2 10 days earlier than expected.

Salesman I spoke to on Friday at ritzcamera.com said that ETA for the S40 is 11/5/01. Didn't ask about the S30.

I don't see the S30 at dell anywhere. Exactly how did you find it?

From http://www.dell.com , click on Small Business, click on the Software & Perhipherals tab, type S30 in the Search field, then it'll come up. It says "Out of stock" with a price of $599. Once you add it to your shopping cart, then you'll see the 20% off discount ($119.80). But because you're shopping in Small Business, you have to pay sales tax. Looks like you can get FREE overnight shipping too.

On the other hand, if you purchase from Home (from http://www.dell.com , click on Home & Home Office, and follow the steps above), then you only get a 10% discount ($59.90) which is the current promotion. For Home shopping, you do not have to pay sales tax in most states. Looks like you can also get FREE overnight shipping.

I'm in California where the sales tax is 8.0%. Here is what the cost would be purchasing from the two different sections:

Small Business = $517.53 ($599 - 20% discount + 8% CA sales tax)
Home = $539.10 ($599 - 10% discount)

Sometimes Dell will have a 20% discount for Software & Peripherals in the Home section. I don't know when that happens, but it seems like every 3 or 4 weeks. That would be the best deal:

Home = $479.20 ($599 - 20% discount)

Over the past couple months, I've ordered many things from Dell (Canon G2, 1GB Microdrive, Iomega Fotoshow, Compact Flash cards, Netgear wireless LAN, etc.) and wait for the 20% discount in the Home section on Software & Peripherals. I usually check http://www.techbargains.com daily and the forums here to keep up with the latest deals.

One word of warning. Dell is horrendous in terms of giving correct dates when it'll ship your order to you. Its estimates are usually way off. Often times, Dell will tell you a certain date, then when you get to that date, it'll give you a new date in the future. Be prepared to wait up to 3 or 4 weeks (or sometimes even longer) if something is not in stock.

I went to the Small Business section, and it looks like you have to register as a business before you can place an order. Do you have a business, or can you register by using your name as the business? I looked on the Dell site last night for the G2, and couldn't find it by doing a search. Just wondering if I can use the small business discount. I live in Texas, so I have to pay tax on a purchase in the Home and Home Business section anyway. This makes the 20% discount on a purchase in the Small Business section my best deal. Any help would be appreciated. T.R.

Tonight I got the Small Business section to take me to the digital cameras. In the past, when I clicked on digital cameras, the site took me to the Home section, where I couldn't get the 20% discount. I thought it was because I wasn't registered as a business. Now the only problem is that I can't find the G2 listed on the site. T.R.

I don't have a business. I created a bogus business name; Dell doesn't ask for a business license or anything like that. I've placed at least two orders under the Small Business section without any problems.

Yes, it looks like the G2 is temporarily unavailable at this time. This happened about a month ago. Dell used to sell the G2 for only $799, then pulled it off its website for a few days and jacked the price up to $899. Some people on this forum have speculated that Dell sometimes temporarily removes products from its website when it thinks it can't meet demand. I'm sure Dell will offer the G2 again soon.

I went to their site earlier today and saw the 20% discount image on their entrance page saying it was valid through today (10/29/01), but when I added the S30 to my cart it came up with the same price. Then, a few minutes ago I looked again and they removed the 20% image. Bummer.
