Has anyone gotten any MS reader to work with XP?

I just installed XP on top of ME. Major disaster. None of my media readers worked anymore. I've managed to install the zio CF reader that came with my S800 using new XP drivers they just installed. I have not been able to successfully install any MS reader yet - not Sony's, not SIIG, not the datacom combo (which give me a blue screen of death!).

HELP. DOES ANYONE KNOW OF AN MS READER THAT DOES WORK WITH XP, AND WHERE ONE FINDS THE NEEDED DRIVERS FOR IT.

All my printers and scanner had to be laboriously reinstalled by hand.

My zone alarm has been acting flakey on XP and I've had to uninstall it so I could access the net.

Hello. Earth calling forum. What happened to all those SONY forum people who were posting that they had been using XP for over a month and it rocks. How are they getting images from their Sony digital cameras onto XP????

HAS ANYONE SUCCEEDED IN GETTING ANY BRAND OF MEMORY STICK READER TO WORK WITH WINDOWS XP? If so which brand, where did you find drivers that worked?

I don't have XP.

However, in extreme cases such as you describe, it's not unusual for users to have to simply (heheh...) do a format and reinstallation of the OS along with devices and drivers. Fresh.

You may simply have too much baggage coming from your old system and setup.

If you connect your Sony DC directly through the bundled USB cable, winxp recognizes it without any driver installation...

However, I can't make my card reader work well in XP.

My Sony memory stick reader works perfectly with XP and required no drivers to be installed

Thanks Lee. At least I know something that is supposed to work, and not to be concerned that their supplied setup.exe doesn't seem to run. Sony support seems to be totally ignorant. Are you using the MSAC-US1A? From one of the other threads, someone said it might matter whether there was a memory stick in the reader when you connect it. If you plug your USB in without a memory stick in the reader, does it indicate the reader is being installed? Or does the reader first get installed when you put a memory stick into the reader?

Arthur,

I'm using the Memory Stick Mouse with XP. I upgraded from 98 and the reader part of the mouse was detected and installed the first time I put a memory stick into it.

I guess you're experiencing the feature they call "plug-and-pray".

Good luck.

I have been using Windows XP for quite a long time in its various incarnations. One thing I do not recommend is upgrading. If I were you I'd save you files and settings and wipe your disk. Then reinstall Windows XP from scratch. You'll have a much better experience.

The first time I plugged my empty MSAC-US1 nothing happened. It was only when I inserted a Memory Stick that Windows XP chimed and installed the drivers. Never had any problems since.

Dave.

No experience with XP. Installed a Sony S-85 driver on the desktop of W98sE PC, and also on an ME notebook. Both worked just fine. Got the Sony stick reader and used it on both PCs. Discarded the driver it came with. (Same driver as the camera, as would be expected).

ME is hardly an advance if you have to 'unload' the viewing program before you shut down the PC (by clicking the green arrow on the taskbar), or it can screw up the stick if you leave it in the reader. No such issues with 98SE. Once you close the accessing program (Photoshop, MGI, etc.), the OS ignores the reader. I don't NEED XP, and such an installation will require some updates especially to any Symantec programs. All of which are not yet available. Too much hassle, what I have works just fine.

i would never jump into anything as major as an OS upgrade without at least a few months maturity on the software. The consumer market is always the best test of all.

I use the memory stick reader with XP. Needed no drivers and works very well.

The reader is not detected unless the stick is in it.
