This is not intended to start a debate over the whole PC vs Mac issue, there are too many of those to go around. What I am looking for is to see what you are using in your Pro environment as well as a little background on your hardware config.

I own both (recently purchased the new Intel Mac) and I wish to come to some understanding on the actual usage of equipment by the Small to Mid sized Pro.

This is not intended to be used for other than personal use and might help others when making a decision based on other Pro users.

So the Poll goes like this:

In your studio (any size, full are part time or simply as a hobby) what equipment you use as the base for your photography system.

A: PC
B: Mac

Describe (not in too much detail) your configuration. (RAM, CPU, Storage):

Software Used (Workflow, Printing, etc):

Are you satisfied with what you have or are you considering a change:

Thank you for participating!

My household (we're an odd designer/photographer mix) owns the following:

May 2003 17" Powerbook 1GHz - 1GB RAM
November 2003 14" iBook G4 1GHz - 768MB RAM
December 2005 Quad-Core G5 2.5GHz - 1.5GB RAM (soon to be upgraded)

Our laptops have 60GB hard drives, we have an external 200GB firewire hard drive, and the new G5 has a 250GB hard drive. We're running CS2 on the G5 and the Powerbook and CS1 on the iBook.

We have an Epson 1280 circa mid-2003 that we use for printing at home, but usually I outsource printing to local companies.

I just realized I only answered part of your questions!

We're pretty satisfied with the setup now that we have the G5. Only problem is that it makes the laptops seem sooooo slow... but we don't quite have the budget to upgrade those yet since the purchase of the G5 and a 20" cinema display is still sitting on the credit card. I don't anticipate us upgrading the laptops until about 2008 or so.

Its only fair that I post my systems and preferences:

Windows XP Pro, P4 3.2G Home Built System, 160G, GForce 6800 video, Dell 20.5" Wide-screen Display.

Server: Widows 2003 Server, 3 - 100 GB Drives. AMD 6400+, 4 GB RAM

Gateway Laptop M680 17" Display, 2GB Ram ATI X700 Video

iMac Intel Core Duo, 1GB Ram 20" Display, 250GB Drive, ATI X1600 128MB Video.

Software PC: Adobe PS CS2, RawShooter Essentials, Google Picasa 2

Software Mac: Standard OSX iLife, hope to get Aperture when it comes out in Universal code base.

Printer: Canon iP6600D, HP Officejet 7110

Scanner: Epson 2480 Photo

I have a P4 Laptop PC, 1 Gig of ram, CS2. Good but a bit slow at times.

MAC G4 Powerbook laptop, 2 Gigs of Ram, CS2. Lightning fast.

Bunches of the laptop size external hard drives but a warning on those drives with the Newer G4 powerbooks... You will need a PCM card / USB 2 powered adaptor to run them as the USB ports on the newer powerbooks does not supply enough power to run the hard drives (unlike my PC) which can be a pain at times.

I mainly use the CS2 to tweak and crop my RAW files and not much else goes on other than that.

Of course I do not have a studio I am usually in the field and I have yet to buy a printer... Someday I will settle down and get one I guess.

Hope this helps you out.
