downloading pictures directly to external hard drive? DSC R1

There is a new extension of the USB 2.0 standard called OTG (In-The-Go).

USB OTG acts as a smart replacement for Your PC and allows downloads directly from an USB device (mass storage) to another USB device, preferably a hard disk or so.

This way You can directly connect a camera to the storage device and it will download the contents of Your memory cards without the need of card removal or hook up of a PC. It works almost with any camera utilizing an USB interface.

I have one of these OTG devices that uses a 2.5" format HD. It even has its own lithium battery power source that lets me download anywhere. It works great with the P200 and the 300D I own. I wish mine had the memory slots though as this allows downloads without the need to carry any cables which is just that much more convenient.

It looks about the same as the one I have. I suggest that if anyone gets an OTG storage device make sure it has the ability to read memory cards. It keeps you from having to carry cables and allows for faster downloads if your device is not capable of high-speed transfer rates.
