I'm not big on wedding photos (just as soon forget both of mine!) but I like the big Healey in #2!

Flowers on the groom and best man is common here in Norway, I don't know if they do it in other countries..?

Ivan

thanks!

You can see what lens I've used under every picture on pbase. Mostly 50mm 1.4D and 105mm 2.8D and 28mm 2.8D.

I'm using from medium to high contrast, adjustment layers, channel mixer,
overlay, and mix different opacities on the different layers.

1. Wedding 2, photo 4: I would have framed this shot more off-centre so that the front fella touching the left edge of the frame with his back, this would eliminate unnecesary details on the left and give more space in front of them possible showing more of the car's front. The back fella is out of focus and looking into the camera - doesn't look good to me. Either put him in focus or let him look elsewhere - the picture should work better.

2. Wedding 3, photos 3 and 5 almost identical - I would show only 1, it would make the final selection more interesting

3. Wedding 5, photo 2: Same thing with an out-of-focus person (a kid here) looking into the camera. Those type of shots just don't work for me.....

4. Wedding 6, photo 1: I think the girl smiles "too much" which emphasizes her wrinkles around the mouth. Most of my clients whould have complained about it. In these caes I usually ask people to try to "smile less" or be completely serious which in many cases ends up being "just hint of a smile" and no wrinkles at all. Sometimes though I have to apply Photoshop in the post.

5. Wedding 7, photo 1: It looks like a difficult photo to me as the difference of the bride and groom heights is sooo big ! I would at least not make it look like he is about to fall on her i.e. rotate the camera anti-clockwise so that the picture rotates clockwise. Could be done in PS though...

6. I'm generally not a big fan of "contrasty" curves - they blow the details on brides dress and on grooms tux. The brides usually complain if they can't see the details on their expensive dress.

.... but otherwise I like your photos :)

Flowers are pinned to the left lapel. Many tuxes/suits still have a spot where the flower was inserted in the lapel but it is just stiching and not cut thru. The flower is on the left so it does not interfere with the B&G getting close together. The groom's proper position is to the bride's left.
Why??? He is closer to her heart.

Thanks for your comments

I've tried to crop the BW photo of the car. But I want to keep the space on the left side. But I should have gotten a bit more in front and under. But this is an uncropped image. I just got them to look in my direction.

I think the outoffocus on one person works quite good sometimes. Not allways, but I love to shoot at 1.4!

But I'll try to get the other person to look away, that might even be better.

I love the car-details that shows on the left side. In a new car I would try to crop them out.

2.

The photos are almost identical, but the groom looks the bride in her eyes on one, and not on the other. They communicate with eachother in different ways between the two pictures.

3. I certainly agree more about the out of focus here. On its own, this picture should have had them both in focus. But I just like the "mood" that
the narrow dof creates...

4. In Norway customers are more often afraid it's not going to look real enough, they often complain when it looks artificial... I do agree that to much smile might not allways be the best look. But at the same time, the
natural smile is what really tells who you are!

One thing about smiling is that they often hide the lower parts of the upper teeth. I tink that looks odd sometimes. But I never ps wrinkles :)

5.

It was difficult. That photo ended up in their album, but I did correct for the angle. But I can see that it is a problem in this picture. When correcting it, the brides angle looks not perfect.

6.

I love contrast, but I don't like to many blown out details either. On printed paper there are just three pictures that are blown out in small parts of the picture (except the bride in wedding 2 in bright sun). The other look like that on screen, but are better on print. I use adobe raw converter in CS2 to check overexposure. I can tolerate some in reflective material but try to minimize it. I'm sorry if my jpegs do not show exactly how the tif that I send to the lab is.

The contrast on wedding 4 is to much, I agree about that :). But I wanted to create a special mood.

Thanks for good comments, It made me think over another time why I did what I did, and why things just happend like they did. I could not control all of it :)

Ivan

Thanks for pointing that out for me! I can see that all the other grooms have their flower on the left side. I think I did too :) (in my own wedding!)

Good tip about the groom on the bride's left side. I will remember that. But it is important for me that the couple feel free to do what they want to do. I don't want to control them to much. But I'll make sure that I have some pictures with the couple in the proper position...

Ivan

Thanks alot! That comment means alot to me.

It sums up most of the things that I try to capture in a wedding :)

Nice shots. I think I like the BW or the 2 men in the convertible the best.

I don't know if I like the flowers colored in the shots. My eyes get drawn to the flowers instead of the people. However, if the bride and groom like the colored flower pics, then good idea.
