XT just arrived - but I won't open it!

The spy photo of the 3?D + 85Lmk2 showed that it was clearly no smaller than the 20D, actually a bit closer to the 10D. In fact, none of the "faked" 3-variant photos floating around are smaller than the current model...

Also, the 370 "rumor" is quite strange since it was accompanied by a picture of the 300D. ;-)

I think you can safely open it now, since the 30D is not going to beat it in size, and the 350 successor is still a summer away.

=====================
My shipment just arrived from B&H. I felt like a little kid
opening the shipping box, then seeing all the shiny new boxes
inside... a new XT camera, 85mm 1.8, 50mm 1.4 and Sigma 30mm 1.4.
Wow!

But... I've decided NOT to open the XT box. At least not yet.
With all the talk of a 370d being introduced soon, I'm gonna wait a
bit to see if an announcement is leaked. If the 370d is being
released soon, I'll sell the 350d brand new, unopened.

It won't be easy to not open the XT, but I'm gonna try!

I'm also not opening the 50mm lens yet (I might sell it new) but
that one won't be as hard to keep in the box.

Wish me luck! :-)

No.........but then.........Im sure there is many ways a person can lose their mind like you have apparently done.

But, it is ok...............the only thing that makes me wonder is why did you buy this camera in the first place?

So now that you have it, your just going to wait a few days to see if a newer model comes out? A newer model that is probably pretty much the same camera with just a couple of small adds to it? And, you are going to try to sell a camera that you could exchange for the retail price and get all your money back? But no, you would rather sell it yourself and lose money in the process??????

I only have one thing to say!

You are a Moron!!!!!!!!!! A no-common sense Moron!!!!!!!!!

That has to be the most idiotic train of thought I have heard come from a person in my whole life!!!!!!

You bought a great camera. Right now, the camera you wont open is listed as the #1 selling DSLR on the market and you wont open it and you wont return it......instead you will resell it yourself to get less than you paid for it so you can purchase a newer unproven product and lose moeny on the deal?????? Simply a Moron!!!!!!

But no, you would
rather sell it yourself and lose money in the process??????
so he will probably "make" money, or at least not lose as much as it seems like.

No offence, but this is one of the silliest posts I've seen recently. You mean to tell me in the week or so since you ordered this package, something has substantially changed in the market? If so, why get the NEXT model - why not wait for the one AFTER that?

You can't go wrong with the equipment you've received, go out and use it for god's sake. What are you really hoping for, a camera that will push the button for you?

Don't mean to sound harsh, but this just sounds like tech paralysis - there really is no pefect camera, especiallly if you don't use it.

you hit the nail on the head exactly.........i dont get it either........seems totally Moron to me..........i would have those boxes open before the UPS truck began to pull away..........i buy something to use it not to try to make money on the deal.

And besides, if there is gonna be a new version out, which there will be. Who says it will be out in the next 3 months? You could have a longer wait than you think.

Seems like such a waste to me.........but oh well.

He did it for the 3x rebate...
so he will probably "make" money, or at least not lose as much as it seems like.
Chez is correct. With $315 in rebate money, I'm not going to lose any money.

Hey guys, I'm only talking about waiting a few days to see if some info is leaked about the PMA announcements. If the rebates ended next week, I would have waited until next week to order. But they didn't, they ended on the 15th, so that's when I ordered.

I'm really not sure why my waiting a few days to open the box is such a big deal. Is it really THAT crazy to buy something and not use it IMMEDIATELY? It's not like I'm putting the box on a shelf for months and months. I'm just waiting a few days. That's all. Does it really warrant calling me names? (Moron??)

By the way, Chez, waiting to open the box is something you suggested yourself. See here:

You made a right decision. Sell your gear as soon as possible, otherwise it will depreciate quickly after introduction of the new model.

When the new model will be announced dont even think to order, wait until the price will drop in about a year or so.

After that order the new model, but dont make mistake of opening the boxes

Read all the photo forums instead in the search of the information about yet newer model. If you don find it this means that you do not search thoroughly enough. Continue your search until you will find some tip.

After that sell immediately unpacked boxxes and wait for the release of the newer model

Do you enjoy taking pictures? If so use it. It's not going to suddenly e any les sof a camera just because a new camera will be released at some point in the future. And who would want to buy it anyway if there is a replacement out?

Right... I think most of the people here missed that post, so they thought you were just being well, fickle ;-) Still, with the leaks as they are at this point it seems pretty clear the 3xD is going to be same or bigger than the 20D, and a 370XT is still 6 months off. Of course, I have been wrong before, so if you can "keep it in the box" all the more power to you. :-)

It's not time yet for a 350 replacement, if they stick to schedule, it will be September at the earliest (but I could be wrong).

Either send back the camera now, or open it and test it. You have limited time to return defective merchandise.

You can open the box and check out the camera and still return it. The return policy states that the camera/lens when returned has to be in the same condition - including all packaging, etc - you know the drill. It's not like you bought it to go on vacation with - and then return it. B&H does not charge a restocking fee.

At any rate, I understand why you did this. The rebates are incredible - so is the camera - and the lens. So it is a win win win win situation! That is a LOT of money to save if you want to keep the camera. If not, you still have a nice rebate.

I have the camera and 50mm/f1.4 lens - and had the 85mm/f1.8 until I sold it to help pay for my 24-105 lens. They are both awesome lenses. I also have the XT and love it.

Sorry for some teasing and/or a bit of bashing - but take it with a grain of salt - and just enjoy what you decide upon! :-)
