Udate from KMSEA on Dyxum.

but by your only posting on one particular website now, in your official position, and ignoring us here it is sending a message, at least to me a battered KM user, that KM does not support DPREVIEW?

What a shame! Could be detrimental to your KM loyal supporters here.

After all, we are looking for info and products not a camera to review!

Aarif sorry to disappoint you but the the second DSLR is not the 9D. Thank you digitalshooter for your kind comments. I have taken them on board . One thing I just can't stand rudness. There is no need for it. Everyone is intitled to their own opinion and I respect that. As you know PMA is been held in Orlando February 26th-March 1st. So if you happen to turn up I will say Hi. KM is on stand 3350.

Well then in must be the 3D,

I had ordered the 300 f/4 from KM Japan but they cancelled it they said that they stopped producing this lens, any thoughts about that I will appreciated.

Regards,

A new KM high quality walkabout range lens now.

An update for the 7D that will improve AF speed later in the spring.

A 9D in the fall when I will have saved enough for what I believe the price will be.

The return of KM to Canada so that I can hold the 9D before I buy it. (But I'd probably buy it anyway).

"The SONY and KM Merger' - that is VERY BIG news!

Up till now, I always thought it was 'speculation', or just a cooperation.

I don't however, buy into that we can't get the upgrade - it is just software.(IMO not likely that hardware issue would eliminate all our upgrade wishes) I buy that it is a 'command decision', or a cost issue(Hmmm?), or LOYALTY is a lost virtue!

7D was a cumbersome 'getting back into the race' and presumably costly. An advanced camera with some niggles (yet).

"Leaks" are one of the only ways to contol positive word-of-mouth in marketing. People love to gossip and think that they know something that others don't. Who knows. Maybe KMSEA is actually part a clever marketing strategy. He can't be too hard to identify if his superiors actually read this forum and he might loose his job faster than we can say electronic viewfinder.

Anyhow, I tip my hat to our own "deep throat" ;-)

My thoughts exactly. I have sold on all my APSc specific lenses to ensure all my lenses will be full frame compliant, and that I may one day realise the TRUE focal lengths (wide end, rarely use tele's these days). I have no intention what so ever of buying in to the 7Di, extra MP or not, I don't want another APSc. I probably will never afford a 9D mind you, but still!

Cheers!

Just curious. Why are you so down on APS-C? Nothing wrong with feeling that way, but I'm just curious what your thinking is. Thanks!

First I'd like to say that some of the posts here are not especially constructive, and indeed a number are rather offensive. Remember that those posts only reflect upon, and diminishes, the writer.

Everyone is speculating about the next products - spec, release, price etc... and its a good game. But realise that it is a game, and that whilst there are certainly some pearls in here, much can change in the lead up to an announcement.

KM-SEA is very helful to us all in giving the "game" some clarity and structure, but that's almost certainly all he can realistically do. And for this we should be very grateful.

So let the "game" go on......maybe someone should open a book....not that long to go!

In general there are mixed feelings about APS-C - Versus - FF. Some people are concerned that they will be left high & dry with APS-C lenses which they will not be able to use unless they retain or buy obsolete cameras.

Others want to mix & match their lenses between using them on 35 mm film & digital bodies although I think that group will shrink fairly rapidly as digital becomes more dominant. There are strong signs that manufacturers are abandoning film. Nikon always have shown stronger inclinations towards APS-C sized sensors than has Canon but , of course , that could change.

I , myself, still am attracted to using APS-C sized sensors as they offer a good compromise. They can be used with smaller lighter 'digital' lenses which only fit the smaller sized sensors although some can be used on FF with some vignetting at wide angles.

35mm FF lenses can also be used on APS-C sensors & that can take advantage of using the sharper central portions of those lenses & avoids to a great extent the weaker soft edges of many middle priced lenses & increased edge CA.

One other factor which attracts me is that DOF is less shallow on APS-C lenses & that is one area which gives many users, especially new comers, some focusing grief. There is a good compromise between wide DOF on Prosumers & shallow DOF on FF cameras. As sensor technology improves the present advantages of FF sensors with regard to noise etc will arguably decrease.

The one size which is still under threat, to my mind, is the so called 4/3 rds sensor employed by Olympus. It will be interesting if at this years PMA this sensor is further promoted by other members of the 4/3 rds group of manufacturers !

digitalshooter,

I think KMSEA posting in one forum--dyxum.com--is just fine. His posts end up in DPReview (and presumably other forums as well) anyway so it's not like DPR subscribers aren't getting anything. For KMSEA this is perfect as he doesn't deserve the sh*t thrown at him by a few posters here. For us, it's also good as we can choose which forum to read it from (thanks to you and Tero for linking to KMSEA's postings at Dyxum). I like the civility of Dyxum but I also like the traffic here at DPR.

Cheers!

Don't forget that KM-SEA is writing in a foreign language & his use
of words may be less precise because of that. Merger/collaboration
  • do you know the Japanese for these words ?
I don't believe this. SEA may very very well stand for "South East Australia". Anyone ever thought about that?

Btw. I really don't understand why people who apparently give access to advance information here are "bashed" by some members. Why don't you just let those informations/assumptions stand for themselves and leave it to each reader to draw conclusions? Why must there always be a proof for each and every statement? Just be patient and wait until the products someone is talking about are actually released. Then you can draw your conclusions about the credibility of a particular person's statements, and if to trust that person in the future. Everybody should have the freedom to draw his/her conclusions themselves. I don't need someone to think for me or to filter informations for me. Btw. I belong to those who always believed (and still do that now) that "KMSEA" is trustworthy and that occasional "failures" of his forecasts have to do with changing decisions within KM, not with dishonesty on his side.

Hi "KM SEA",
I'm glad to see you back on dpreview.com.

Too bad I cannot access dyxum.com with my internet connection currently. That server doesn't even respond to a ping since some weeks - don't know why but hope to get this fixed by my provider soon.

Btw. a little personal question (only answer if you like to of course):
"SEA" stands for South East Australia - is this correct?

All the best wishes for 2006,

Johannes

Because its going to get crazy. Only problem is who is going where with which camera!

Sure hate to loose some of the good, informative, knowledgeable supporters to the other camera formats.
