Has anyone seen a G2 at Best Buy?

I am going nuts because my G1 has two big green dots in every photo. The camera came from Best Buy and they are out of G1's to exchange it. They said they will replace it with a G2 when they arrive but three weeks have gone by and I am considering alternate actions to get my camera replaced.

I am just wondering if anyone across the US has seen a G2 at any Best Buy. I might be able to get something shipped from another state to replace my camera.

Thanks,
Billy

I'm going to Best Buy tomorrow in Phoenix - I'll check for you and let you know tomorrow night.

A guy at Best Buy who sounded like he knew what he was talking about said the G2 will arrive about in time for Xmas, something in November. This was at a store where they had the price tag out for the G2 for a month or so.

I gave up on them and went elsewhere.

Scott,

Sounds great! Thanks for the reply.

It is getting frustrating because the spots are simply intolerable. I like the idea of getting a G2 as a replacement but the wait is really frustrating. I would rather get the dough and go elsewhere but time is not on my side. I am quite happy with the G1 and would probably take another if offered.

I am trying to keep my mind on other things but the changing seasons are agonizing me with beautiful light and color. I swear I've probably seen half a dozen spaceships, Loch Ness monster in the stream that runs through the canyon near my house and my dog has been taunting me by levitating on a regular basis. I have a feeling these amazing things will come to a halt once I have another camera in my hot little hands.

Damn the luck!

Cheers,
Billy

I was just at my local Best Buy last Saturday, and as of then the G2 is not in stock. [On my part it was more an idle question than a serious one, since Best Buy seems to charge full MSRP for digicams in general, al least for the new, expensive ones. I'd rather buy from Dell or some other reputable mail-order store. I understand that your circumstances are different.]

Charlie

If you look at the Best Buy's homepage they still don't have the G2 posted. I have heard that once this is posted on their web page, it will probably be another month before the stores receive them to sell. I had a gift certificate to Best Buy and wanted to buy a G2 but couldn't wait that long.

It sounds like your going to get an excellent deal if they are going to swap your G1 out for a G2. I am surprise Best Buy is going to do that. I wouldn't pass that deal up.

I initially bought the G1 at Best Buy with my gift certificate and then returned it once I found out the G2 was coming out. I had my 30 days to return it. I finally bought the G2 from Dell for an excellent price.

The G2 is outstanding. I love it. It is beautiful and powerful. I took it to my brothers wedding this past weekend and got some excellent shots. I recommend the G2 over the G1, although there are a few things I miss on the G1.

This all started with a sony I bought a couple of years ago. I bought the extended "we'll replace it or give you a camera equal to the original price" warranty. When the floppy drive stopped producing disks that could be read by anything but the camera they gave me a coupon for the original price I paid for the Sony. It put me within a couple hundred bucks of the G1. I paid the difference and 6 months later I am in this unusual position.

It seems they stand behind their warranty but I am at a loss for the wait I face. With the total price I paid for the G1 I will likely come in equal to the G2 price. Having owned the sony for nearly two years and getting a full refund in the form of having the original price applied to the G1 is waaay better than selling a broken sony. Adding the cash to make up the difference to get a G1 was a no-brainer considering the circumstances. Hopefully the G2 will last two years and I will trade it in for the "H4 Holographic-Experienciator" with a couple hundred bucks.

Oh well, I guess I have to wait. I have heard they will have it around the beginning of November. Maybe my dog will still be levitating.

Thanks

Billy

Billy,

No G2's at the Best Buy here in Northern VA. I asked when they were getting a shipment and there were none on order. I wonder if Best Buy is dropping Canon?

I recently purchased a S110 there and had a horrid experience with customer service. If I didn't have $200 in gift cards to use I would have walked on and purchased elsewhere.

If I could do all of this over again I am not sure I would go the same route. In hindsight it is good that I managed to get out from under the Sony but I am in a position that I would rather have my cash to go out and get a camera. This is a much less likely option. If it gets really bad I could take them to court and they would likely settle just to get it over with. In their favor they have honored a $50 replacement warranty on a heavily used 2 year old camera and are willing to give me another camera for the G1 if I want one. the trouble is that I want a G1 or 2 and they have neither.

I have no regrets about the G1 so I would be satisfied with another. I am in a position where I have a B300, lensmate, macro filters and a few CF cards. A flash was in my future too. Currently they are paper weights.

The best buy customer service is pretty lame and I am sure my gains are more a result of lazy employees thinking it is easier to replace my camera than fix it. Calling on the phone is useless. An automated system answers the phone and you must go through a lengthy wait until someone decides to pick it up and then you are put on hold while they go looking for your answer only to have a second person pick up and disconnect you. I would rather do my trading with a small camera shop in the future.

Thanks for checking. I am biding my time...

Cheers,
Billy

Its like the coke and pepsi wars. One store only carried certain brands.
My Best Buy is all about Sony.

Billy,

Sorry to report that Best Buy in Northwest Phoenix did not have G2. In fact, the ONLY Canon they had was an A20. It may be that Andrew is correct.

My own impatience was definately getting the best of my pessimism. Fortunately the Bestbuy.com website now has the camera listed so at least there is hope for the exchange taking place soon! Maybe a week or two.

Woohoo!
