Does anyone know how to get rid of the opening startup screen and music for the display screen without deleting the beeps for focus lock or shutter sounds? Thanks.

I'd love to turn it off too...it's quite annoying and is a distraction if I have to turn it on in quite surroundings....I think I'll call canon and see if they have any ideas

Just keep the lcd closed and it will make no noise when it is turned on, once its on, flip the screen out...or i suppose you could hold the little button in the top left corner of the lcd area down and that would do the trick too. I think the first option is much easier though ;)

Hey, I think you're right....when I get mine back from being exchanged, I'll try it, but I vaguely remember this being the case. What is weird is that I called Canon tech support and they said there is no way to disable the sound and/or the start up screen at power up. thanks for the tip

Put the camera into playback mode and turn down the playback volume. This will stop the opening fanfare but beeps for focus and shutter sound will remain.
