Leica DMR

others for collection purposes.

Canon's weak point is wide angle optics, given the same Leica R
glass mounted, a 1Ds Mark II beats the DMR hands down from every
aspect.
And did you check this for yourself? The comparison that has been done by several photographers on the FM community proved that the Leica DMR is superior on several points (and more than one sold it's 1DsmkII afterwards):
  • dynamic range is better (quite a bit)
  • exposure metering is better
  • overaal image quality and tonality is better (this last one is difficult to measure however), this is the often discussed CCD vs CMOS thing
The 1DsmkII has better noise control, AF (not for everyone so important), a bit more resolution, and a larger sensor.
The DMR has some weak points, but some very strong as well, and I

Hey folks,

I am new here so I do hope not to make to many mistakes.
My name is Rob and I come from the Netherlands.

I use Hasselblad"s and leica's for many years and with Christmas I
recieve my DMR (Digital Module R) voor my R 8 and R 9

I must say that I have worked with the DMR by Leica in Solms for
one day and jet I have worked a couple of weeks with the DMR here
in the Netherlands, Utrecht.
I am very surprised that I don't read anything here of the DMR.

My experiences with the DMR are so good and the images are so
beautifull and "not digital like " with their often ugly sharpness
that I have seen by friends of mine that I think that all the
advantages of digital work and the sphere, the beautifullnes of
images on film comes together with the DMR.
Which of you have also experiences with the DMR and what is your
opinion
of it ?

Thanks and greetings,

Rob.

I doubt that people are collecting DMRs and just putting them on a shelf. In fact, all of the Leica users I know are photographers and use Leica for photography.
Canon's weak point is wide angle optics,
Which is why the "bragging rights" people you are talking about own R lenses in the 1st place. If you use Leica lenses on a Canon body, you are still a Leica user.

The #1 reason to own a Leica is to use their lenses.

On one hand you are saying that Leica is for snobs, but on the other hand you say it has a legitimate place in the photographic world. Which is it?
