Maxxum 7D Dual battery use

I don't know but it last a whole lot longer than the single battery. I love the grip!

Now if I could only find a bracket that lets me use the grips shutter release.

I presume that you are referring using two batteries in the grip ? Unless you need the larger size that using a grip offers or are shooting long flash intensive sessions then I think that a grip is unnecessary & any extra money would be better invested in spare batteries.

Fitting a newly charged battery when the first on runs out gives a better indication of normal battery capacity & allows the first to be put on charge while continuing to use the second. This can often be done in the field by using a car cigarette lighter adaptor charger. In normal use one battery lasts a whole day anyway.

The grip came with my kit, but I no longer use it. One reason is that if I do run out of battery power with the grip, I'd have to have another pair of fully charged batteries as backup in order to continue using the grip. It's just easier go without the grip and to carry a single spare charged battery. One fully charged battery covers more than the 3Gig of CF cards I carry, so I'd run out storage before I ran out of battery.

I do prefer shooting with the grip than without. But the grip-equipped camera doesn't fit well into my day bag, and when I'm travelling, it draws too much attention to the camera, which makes me nervous.

No, you need not have two fresh batteries to insert in the grip. One battery will work in the grip just fine and you also have the option of using 6 AA batteries in the grip as a backup.

It's true a single battery will work fine in the grip, but then why bother with the grip? Half its value was the extended shooting time of dual batteries.

The other value of the grip is the ability to shoot vertically more easily, and to some extent, the ability to hold the camera more firmly.

The negative to that is my inability to adjust to finding the controller and other knobs and buttons when my shutter finger moves to vertical mode.

The negatives are all due to my personal shooting wants, not to the grip itself. It's a solid device that does exactly what it's supposed to do.

I never was able to shoot a complete wedding and formals with only one NP-400, I always had to change batteries. I would then put in the AA's in to the grip and continue shooting while the Np-400 charged. I use high capacity rechargables, regular AA's wouldn't even power my camera up, maybe its just my camera. After I get to the reception I would have to switch back to the np-400 after a while and charge the AA's.

With the second battery in teh grip I have not needed to change batteries the whole day except new years eve. Of course, I shot a ton more pictures and stayed there far longer than any other wedding last year.
