Great pictures,

I was in Vegas two weekends ago, at the Venetian, and i'm pretty happy to see your pictures of the hall and gondolas, because i've used a cheap crappy, 35 mm camera, and all my pictures are wasted... That's it I've decided to buy myself a digital cam. Are you happy with your G1?, i'm thinking about the G2. Do you suggest the Canon, or any other brand... Thanks....
I took some nite shots with G1 last weekend. Check them out at

Really nice pictures of Vegas. I was just there a month ago and
also visited Sedona which you also have pictures of.

Any chance you are from Malaysia like myself?
Yeap! I'm from Melaka, Malaysia. Working in AZ currently. Are u staying around the US Southwest as well?

Ahhh, Vegas at night ... enough to send a photographer into a
sensory overload seizure. If I hadn't been to Vegas and seen these
buildings myself, I would swear that these are pictures of models!

Can you provide some more info on shooting details? Were these shot
in auto?
Agree. So many colorful buildings to shoot at nite in Vegas. A great place to learn nite shot, IMHO. I still want to go back, as I know I have only explored fraction on what can be shot, with 2 nites there.

All shots are done in manual mode. You can use Shutter priority mode, but I prefer to control the aperture as well. Tripod is a must, obviously. Just experiment. That's the great thing about digicam.

Besides the focusing problem people had been talking about G1, I am very happy with the G1.

I have never tried any other cameras, so I can't comment. If I suddenly lost my G1 for some reason, I won't hesitate to buy a G1 or G2, based on the experience I had with it. I had to send the camera to Canon service center once, and very pleased with their service.

If you want to learn photography (not just doing P&S), G1/G2 is definitely a good choice though!

Good luck!

No, I'm actually in Ohio. I was raised in KL, though I was born in Melaka. Nice to see a fellow M'sian here.

Hi Seowfun. I'm really impressed with your outdoor pics, such as the ones from U of Arizona. Can you please share with us some of your secrets. Are you using a polarizer? I have a G1 and a Tiffen Circular Polarizer, but my colors don't come out nearly as deep and beautiful as yours.

Thanks.

Thanks for the very nice Las Vegas photos. I just got back from a 2 night stay in Vegas. I ended up not having time to take photos so didn't even take my G1 out of the camera bag. I've enjoyed coming back home to see yours.

How did you get get so well centered for the ceiling shot in Paris? I actually wanted that shot (but didn't have G1 on my body). Regardless, I took a few mintues to ponder how I would take that shot since the fountain was directly underneth the certner of the stain glass. Long arms?

Thanks again for the beautiful photography.

Yes, I used a Tiffen polarizer for most the shots for Ariz State U. That was the 1st time I learn to use polarizer, and I was pretty please with the results.

In those shots, I mostly use Av mode, with -1/3 or -2/3 exposure compenstation. I felt that if we don't use the exposure compensation, G1 will tend to overexposed, and also lost color saturation at the same time.

I also cheat by setting the color saturation settings for the camera to High :) But no post camera processing for those shots.

Good luck!

Not having time to take pics? Must be winning to much money :)

I was kind of surprise that it came out looks rather center. I setup my tripod beside the fountain, so I didn't shoot directly underneath it. I guess it is partly related to the fact that I could not get my tripod to point the camera straight up, so the little bit of tilting of the camera shooting from the side may have make the picture looks centered.

Thanks!

I use manual mode with all the nite shots. I don't see how the camera auto exposure system can work under those circumstances.
BTW, what general settings did you use i.e. Auto, Program, any
compensations?
Thanks,
Deb

Many thanks for the wonderful shots. What lenses do you have and who you buy different brands if you had to do it all over again? I am still wondering which telephoto, wide angle and close up lens to buy.

Seeing others works is one of the great things about this forum.
