I have a hard time decideing something, i would like some advice. I have right now Canon 20D, but i am looking to upgrade to another body it is actually an older body it is the Canon EOS-1Ds the FF 11.1 Mega Pixel one. I was woundering if it would be better than the 20d, if money is not the issue. Would the 1Ds be better in pic quality, i just wanted to know the ups and downs and which one would be better, and i dont know if this might help i am thinking about doing wedding photography, thanx

...why not get the 1DsMII if what you need is resolution and FF? If you need speed, you probably wanna get the 1DMII. I don't see a reason to buy a 1Ds, except if money actually was an issue...

... then I would buy both a 20D and a 5D for the price of roughly a 1D MII. So is money really not an issue?

If you're thinking of getting a used 1Ds, then you might instead think of getting a new 5D. It's got greater resolution and a whole heap of more advanced features than a 3 year old camera. Not to say it's a better camera, just maybe a better value at this point.

What is it about the 1Ds that you are interested in? Keep in mind that it's a 3 year old camera, and a lot of advancements in sensor technology and electronics have occurred since then. Unless you can get a 1Ds for really, really cheap, I would recommend going for a 5D instead. A 5D would probably outperform the 1Ds in almost every respect.

I was kind of thinking the same thing to about the 5d but i juat wanted to hear someones opinion, and the reason that i wanted the EOS-1Ds is that it is FF and already has the vertical grip and the resolution too, i was looking at one at ebay you can get them like $2,000 there....but the 5d are a little bit more pricey

Well, I have to say, $2000 is pretty tempting for a former $8000 camera; especially since that's not a whole lot more than a new 20D. I'd say go for it, with the caveat that you could always get a dud that was beaten on by its former owner, especially since you'd be spending about $250 for a vertical grip anyway, easily bringing the price of a new 5D to close to $3500.

Also consider a Nikon D200. Many features are better than the 20D, save a little money over the 2K for a 1Ds. If you search the 1D forum, you'll find folks who owned the 1Ds had some buffer and high ISO issues (I never did own one, but searched extensively when the II came out) that are near non-issues for the newer cameras.

In the end, they are all great choices. Which one would you take if they were offered free? That's the one to choose.

I kind agree with, i mean what i want to know if the EOS-1Ds is better than the 20d, or not, i just wanto to know if i should get that over the 20d, and how the 1Ds id with noise on high iso???

The 1Ds only goes to ISO 1250, and Phil thought it had more noise at ISO 100 and ISO 200 than the D60.
