Yesterday I got a chance to really test the 1.7 teleconverter.
Heres a shot of St. Regis Mtn., slightly zoomed in with Ben in the foreground:

...closer...you can see the fire tower on the right peak:

...a lot closer...

...you're there!!! (2.44 miles away):

I'm amazed. What fun!

The first photo with Ben is wonderful!! Thanks so much for showing us what the Teleconverter can do ;-))

I am going out with mine this afternoon for the first time. Yes, the sun is shining although right now it is hazy. Maybe by 2:30 when my meeting is done, it will be just right!! If not, I can practice PP. hehehehe

Cheers and thanks again, Denise

You're asking the wrong person, since I use the flash only when needed, and that's been outside with a dark subject on a bright background. In fact, the only indoor shots I've taken with the H1 have been experimental.

I'm sure there are quite a few readers out there who have dealt with that problem, since I've seen a lot of indoor animal shots that look great.

Wish I could be of more help.

Just checked out the pictures, one thing puzzles me.

With 35mm if you add a 2x converter you'd lose 2 stops

question....... is this the same with digital?

The EFIF info on these pictures doesnt account for this, i would have thought that with extending the zoom from 432mm to 734.4 would have some affect...increase shutter/aperature/F stop.

Dont take it the wrong way i'm not calling the pictures as i think they are great and i'm thinking of buying the converter for my H1, its just that i'd like to know the technical information.

Coming from manual SLRs I was also expecting to lose a few stops with the lens attached. For some reason the Sony lenses I have - DH1758 and M3358 - don't cause any light loss. Don't know why, but got used to it very quickly.

In addition the IS works very well so I can take pictures at 734mm focal length hand-held at 1/60 of a second, whereas the common rule would suggest to go at least for 1/500.

You will experience a totally new world with this camera and the DH1758 combo. Could not dream about that way back then.

I couldn't take it any more, so went to " Digitally Unique's website, as they where recommended here, and got the whole set, telephoto, wide angle, close-up and the polarize/uv filter kit.Great prices, but they took the order and payment, then sent an email to said it's on hold cause of no stock, Guess alot of members are going for that 1.7 telephoto, I'm sure it'll work out, but they don't cancel the order for thirty days, so I can't reorder from somewhere else, just wanted the group and other newbies to have a heads up, I should have used the 800# and got immediate stock confirmation instead of placing the order through the web site. Can't wait to get them. All your photos are inspiring.
