Just received the Nikon D50 today and very happy with all of it - build quality, focus speed/accuracy, shutter lag, exposure, flash accuracy. Really good.

Only 2 things that worry me are the rubbish rubber cover on the left side covering the cable ports (isn't it just going to come off?) and the reports here about shutters going after 20,000 pics.

No idea how to embed a photo, so here's a link to my first pic ...

Would just like to thank ppl on this forum - it has been v helpful reading through all the posts when deciding whether to go for this camera.

I don't even touch the rubber cover, and it's never been a problem. I'm not to 20,000 clicks yet, so can't help you there. Good luck.

Yes you probably heard the from the Canon forum, if you ask them I'm sure the will all tell you we use are camera's as door stops after 10,000 actuations. I would not worry about it I've not heard sure reports, sure there may be a few here but for every one user here theres tens of thousands that never go online here and enjoy there camera. Just remember just like the new media people only speak up and report when theres bad news and almost never report the good news.

Thank-you.

I just use the rubber cover for the USB cable. i assume if you don't open it that you use a card reader?

There was a guy in the other Nikon forum that shot 10000 shots in one day. I shoot a few hundred a month. Even if you are somewhere in between that forget about the shutter. I also think in not so many years Cameras of the D50s quality will be $300-$400. At least I hope . It would depend on Nikon being smart enough to realize tthat 6 mp is fine for most folks.
