Try the spot or flex point focus mode, works fine for me.

Your camera could be like the Fuji6900z........with a foreground subject not filling the frame in about 40 to 50% of cases it focuses on the background........remedy? ....go to manual focus, if you have a fine focus button or equivalent zoom in and focus on the foreground subject or just manual focus on the foreground subject.....zoom out ,recompose your shot and take it,.......results ..perfect focus..use f8to f11 to give you depth of field if needed, otherwise f4tof5 will give you enough so that more than the subjects nose is in focus!Shoot at 1/60th or above.
cheers

Shutter speed too slow for the focal length? 1/focal lenght is the old rule of thumb. Bryan

Everyone else has already given all the answers. :(

I had the same experience my first night with the camera. My problem was shutter speed to long for hand held.

As to the normal behaviour of the camera, I took 1000+ photographs recently, outdoor, varied lighting conditions, but generally bright. 5 were out of focus.

Make sure your not in continuous focus mode, that one is a little tricking, and if you are in single mode, make sure you wait for it to focus and say its in focus before you take the shot. And as every one else said, keep an eye on your shutterspeed. If you are in a program mode make sure you don't have the shaky hand icon.

Listen to what has been posted here.

I had the exact same problem. It looked real good in the LCD, but the picture came out all fuzzy. Solution? Look at the settings and watch for the hand icon. If the hand comes on, you have the potential for fuzzy shots. Not all of them, mind you, but many of them. My solution? Increase the ISO setting for inside (and be prepaired for a not-so-good-looking-shots but they are sharp) or flash it.

Betcha you took your camera right out of the box, sat at your table and took some quick snaps, huh? Same here. I thought I had a broken camera or had wasted my money. I experimented some more with the camera and found the problems were my own. Hang in there.
