I thought I would post some pics from my archive that were shot on both film and digital to see if anyone can spot whats what....

There are twelve all up and I will post the answers in a week or so. This may be a pointless post but its got to be better than some of the other pointless posts I am seeing lately.

The 2 cameras used are a Nikon FM2 using Fuji Velvia and a Nikon D50 using "free film" ;) - All images were shot with various Nikkor lenses.

Good luck...

Trannies digitised with a Nikon Coolscan III at 2700 dpi.

All images had some level adjustment but no colour enhancement and some had a little sharpening added. PP done in PS.

BTW this is not meant to be a scientific comparison between film and digital - just a little bit of fun. Thanks to all who participate.

Cheers

I'd say that 1, 3, 7, and 12 look particularly "filmy," but the nighttime shots could very easily go both ways. I'd just guess that they're digital sheerly because of the trial-and-error and zero-cost-per-frame advantages of digital. When I'm shooting lightning, I regularly fire off 100 shots in a row, which of course wouldn't work on film.

1,3,4,5,8,12 are film?

the shadows are quite dark and that makes them hard to guess....

i guess all the city night shots are digital 'cos i usually 've green color shift when doing long exposure with velvia.

Velvia Reciprocity failure does cause the colours to get shifted into the green with a 1 sec exposure or more. Good detective work... but I could have colour corrected for that - I guess you will find out soon.

Thanks for trying the quiz.

It does allow for a lot more trial and error and of course the cost factor is another great advantage.

Thanks for your answers.

Film vs digi Round 2 anyone?

If people leave enough posts I will organise another in the next week or so.
