I sold my canon A 95 with which it was rarely possible to shoot a really sharp picture, autofocus even in daylight was very slooow...It had 35-114 mm (in 35mm equ) f2,8-4,9 lens. I guess it should read (dividing with1,5) as digital lense 25-76 mm for APS C.The characteristics of the lens itself satisfied my photographic themes, everyday life, people, street scenes, houses, forest, landscapes, some indoor social events and home flowers, rooms, furniture.I decided to go on with the d 50, I need your suggestions for lens. Would the kit 18-55 do for the above themes in the beginning, or which lens should I buy, weighing less than 380 grams, possibly one lense for general use, quick autofocus? I do not want to create special scenes, I want quick, natural colour, razor sharp pictures, not more and not less what I see with my eyes, horizontally and vertically.

What shall I see in the pictures with the following lenses, would you please "evaluate" them one by one?
-Nikon 50/f1,8 AF D, 160 grams
-Nikon kit lens 18-55, 210 grams
-in bundle AFS Nikkor DX 55-200 mm,f4-5,6 G ED,255 grams
-Sigma 18-125/f3,5--5,6 DC ASP IF, 385 in some sites 405 grams
-Sigma 28-70/f2,8-4.0 ASP DG, 245 grams
-Sigma 18-200f3,5-6,3 ASP DC IF,385 grams,

I guess for sure that better quality lenses weight more beacause more bilt in glass, specially f2,8 and on..,but price is higher as well.
thank you, best wishes for 2006!

I think the kit lens will do you just fine to start. There's no need to spend a ton of money on expensive lenses right off the bat. Get used to the camera using the kit lens and when you're ready to step up go for it.

I would get the Nikon 18-70 "kit" lens. It is sharper than the 18-55, covers a longer range, and focuses faster.

There is a guy that posts on the D70 forum almost all of his earlier work was shot with the 18-70. he has recently added the 70-200VR. some of his pictures are beautiful girls on the beach in So. Cal, so if that kind of photography bothers you - dont look

This is his home page. I think he shows that the 18-70 can really do it

Another vote for 18-70mm. I got it with my D50 and its my most used lens. I also own 50mm 1.8, 10.5mm, 70-200mm VR.

18-70mm is a very decent lens.

thank you for all of you suggesting the Nikkor 18-70's to my future D 50.

I have heard that this lense is the kit one to the D70S.I know all of the said advantages of it, but found a little bit too heavy with

420 grams, thats why I would like to have some lighter one up to 350-380 grams max.
waiting for your comments on the anumerated lenses, thanks a lot.

I think I shall go for 24-70 or 28-70 dig. lenses.
Any opinion on Sigma 28-70 f 2,8-4.0 DG ASP, 245 grams, Euro 150,-?

Or Nikkor 28-80 f 3,5-5,6 G AF, 195 grams, Euro 180,-?This latter one is for the analog F55,65 etc, dont know how does it work with d-50,wating for your comments.
