I purchased a Sandisk 256mb CF card back at the beginning of October and sent in the rebate promptly. I still have yet to recieve the rebate, and my information doesn't show up on either the Circuit City or Sandisk rebate sites! I've tried tracking number, phone, address, email to no avail. I hope it didn't get "lost in the mail" as so many things do with USPS.

I better not be screwed out of the $15 from this. I will call them tomorrow, hopefully they will still send me the check. Don't get me wrong, the price was good before the rebate (I never buy on rebate alone), but I have a right to that money. Many stores seem to offer rebates instead of sales, and they know damn well that people can screw up, mailmen steal mail, and thus they can profit off of lost rebates.

Instead of using old technology (aka Pony Express) why aren't rebates processed electronically. When the person buys the item, that data goes to the rebate company and viola the check is sent. Or just skip the whole damn rebate thing and lower the price.

All this comes up as I send out another Sandisk rebate, actually two, on a 256mb SD card. They total $25. If I actually get the money, the card will only cost me $10 in the end.

I got just about same story, but mailed my rebate in Nov. 1 -05, if you get it let me know how you did it THANKS RON

these companies make it hard because they don't want to give the money back.they only give out enough to keep the goverment off their back.

Your problem is almost certainly due to the slowness (on purpose) of the rebate "fulfillment" house subcontracted to handle the rebate. The USPS does not ordinarily lose mail, and it handles billions of letters reliably and promptly; nor do mailmen routinely "steal mail" as you implied. If your mail is stolen, it is much more likely that a thief took it out of your mailbox, and you should not malign innocent and hard-working postal employees because you are impatient for your measly 15 bucks.

Well the local post office here has lost 3 items of mail that were supposed to be delivered to me in the past 2 years, one of them a personal check, the postmaster said he couldn't do anything about it. So that's why I'm wary of the USPS, at least my local office.

I've mailed and received tens of thousands of items via USPS, and as far as I know they never lost anything. Or nothing that mattered, at least. So that's probably not the explanation.

I have a different attitude about rebates. I don't base on my buying on prices after rebate, because it's often too difficult to collect them. When I do file for one, I promptly forget about it, and if it comes, I consider it gravy. Life is too short to spend it worrying about these unreliable "free money" offers.

By the way, when they do come, they're usually disguised as junk mail so you'll throw them out without noticing.

Recently I purchased two Sandisk cards from different vendors. With Circuit City I filed through the mail but Best Buy gave an option to file online which i took. I just filed yesterday so we'll see what happens....
BestBuy is saying 4-6 weeks while others usually say 8-10.

For years, I only halfway believed people who claimed the PO must have lost the check they had sent right on time. It has been a lot more years since I believed any part of that old saw.

If the "check's in the mail" it arrives. If it doesn't arrive, it was never in the mail, IME.

Rebates shouldn't be a "game". Years ago I had very few problems with them. But I guess things have changed. Places like Circuit City are not having as many markdowns and instead basing "sales" today on rebates.

I went into Circuit City today because of "HUGE" advertised sales. Traffic's been insane so I figure they must be having good deals. I went in and saw the same memory cards I recently got selling for $5-$10 more than I paid back in October and early December. They raised prices, but are including a bigger rebate, some were $20. No one should fall for that, but many consumers are so gullible they will. And the stores know it and laugh all the way to the bank.

I don't base my buying on the rebates either. The prices were reasonable BEFORE the rebates on the cards I got. But I feel if I followed the instructions, sent in the recipt (store printed out extras), UPC from package, and rebate form, I should get my money. If getting a rebate is so unlikely, stores should put that UP FRONT saying that there's a chance that the rebate will never come. But they don't say that. There seriously needs to be an attorney general investigation into this.

Depending on what happens in my case, I may bring the matter to the Attorney General's attention.

For real. I've mailed thousands of items when I sold things on Ebay, and only one person ever claimed that it was lost in the mail (in all likelihood, it was just delayed, he complained after 10 days). Besides, how exactly do CC/Sandisk make out if the mail carrier steals the checks?

I just sent some rebates in to Circuit City for a memory card and Office Depot on a camera. You said that you were going to call. If you call, how do you prove that you sent it in???

I guess if I'd known it was such a big problem, for a dollar I would have sent it with Delivery Confirmation via the USPS.

I stood in line on Black Friday (11/26/05) to purchase a SanDisk 512MB SD Card from Staples for $14.95 after a $12.00 rebate. Also grabbed a Maxtor Ultra 200 GB hard drive for $39.00 after rebate. I applied for the rebates online that same day. I got an email that night confirming that they were recieved. I just recived another email today (01/01/06) saying that the rebate process for the memory card was complete and I would recieve a check within two weeks. I'm not worried about the rebate for the hard drive; I'm confident that there won't be a problem. CC and Best Buy are now off of my list of places to do business. Office Max, too. I have mailed in rebates in the past, but always scanned the paperwork so that I had copies. This was SO much easier.

Great idea to keep copies. Actually, for the Office Depot rebate, the only thing that I sent original was the receipt but I kept a copy. Photocopies for everything was ok with their stated requirements. I guess I'm more concerned on my CC purchase now. The rebate was $20 from CC and $20 from SanDisk. I don't remember what I sent in but I was in a hurry and probably didn't make copies, playing my odds...

I like the idea of online rebates. I'm sure there is a reason, but why don't they just give us the discount at the register and save us and them the paperwork and trouble!

Similar problem here as many of you have encountered at different stores.
I purchased a 512 MB memory card
from Staples. I submitted the rebate ($12) next day Staples online. That is
September 2nd. After waiting for weeks and checking the status online
(with the message that the rebate is in progress), I wrote to them finally.
Here is what Staples says in their message back by e-mail:

'......While we are verifying your purchases through the Easy Rebate program, the
actual processing of your submission for this particular promotion is being
handled by an outside fulfillment house, and we do not have this information
available to us. You can contact the correct fulfillment house at the phone
number on the Redemption Form that was printed from the cash register at the
time of purchase.

We appreciate your participation in this program. If there is anything else
we can do to assist you, please contact us at [email protected]. We
are always happy to help......'

I called Sandisk last week and I am mailing all the receipts to them now. See what happens.

Some screw-up going on here, which is quite unprofessional.
