G2 focus failure after exit macro..

I recently picked up a Canon G2. Love the camera thus far, but I am having one problem, which I am uncertain about.

I put the camera in macro mode and take some close up shots of something using both wide angle and zoom in macro. The pics turn out great. Next I exit macro mode by pressing the macro button. Then I unzoom back to wide angle and try to take a picture of something distant (at least 10 feet away to infinity) and the picture will not be in focus even though I get focus lock indication. Not even manual focus will make a difference, it is still out of focus no matter where the manual focus is set. Now if I turn the camera power off for a few seconds and turn it back on, the wide angle focus is fine again and the pictures are clear and in focus. I've tested this over and over and the camera will not focus in wide angle after zooming in macro until the power has been turned off and back on.

Is it normal to have to power the camera off and back on in order to get out of macro mode and shoot wide angle distant shots?

G2 owners please try this out and affirm if I need to exchange my camera for another, or is this common to all G2 cameras? It doesn't seem right to me, but I want to be sure this is not a user error. If needed, I can upload samples later tonight. I have shots before macro, after macro, and then again after powering the camera off and back on. The 1st is great, the second shot is blurry, and the 3rd shot is great again?

Unless you are pressing the MF button on the side of the camera accidently (the macro icon will change to MF), there is something seriously wrong with your camera. Return.

No, it's not normal at all. I just fired up my G2 and took a few test shots, stepping in and out of macro at various zoom levels. All were in focus and crisp. Sounds like you have a faulty unit and should get it back to the store for a replacement.

Thanks to both of you that replied. I took some more shots before and after using telephoto macro, and just as previously stated: once I exit Macro and try taking wide angle shots, they are out of focus until I power of the camera and turn it back on.

I just packaged everything back up as close as possible to the way it was when I opened it, and I will be returning it tomorrow to exchange for another G2. If it wasn't for bad luck, I would have no luck at all. Of all the cameras in the world... I had to get one that had a problem!

Aside from the focus problem I encountered, I am impressed with the camera otherwise. Controls are fairly easy to learn and making adjustments seems as though it will be quite easy after spending some time with the camera. I just received my lensemate, UV filter, and a sunpack macro lens set, but I'll have to wait till tomorrow to try them with the replacement camera (if they have one in stock, and with my luck they won't).
