Howdy Gang:

Loooooong time since I have been on here. Happy Holidays to all! Today I went to fire up the 7D and heard the 2-3 second "rattling sound" - noticed all bars for the AS indicator were lit up on the right of the viewfinder. AF seemed OK, but shutter would not release. All other stuff seemed normal, but no-go on the shutter firing - did not matter if I set to release priority or AF priority. So, what do you think is going on? Is there a trip to NJ in my cams future?

Is there a way to do a full reset - analagous to ctrl-alt-del in the old days? I removed the batt and reinstalled, same issue exists. I re-seated the lens, same issue exists.

What's the dealio, gang?

Within a week of purchasing my 7D I upgraded the firmware to 1.1 via the download from the MInolta web site. After installing the firmware upgrade my shutter would not release. I ended up having to send it in to NJ for repair.

Thanks Gents - alas, no magic answer but to pack it up and send it to Santa's workshop. sigh...

Hi,

I wonder how common is this AS problem - could it be that the mechanism is not so reliable?

Myself, I keep it on all the time. (Reached the 1000 snaps count)

Thanks.

This is a rare one to happen.

Haven't heard many people on this forum complain of this problem.

If I recall correctly, many moons ago the subject was brought up about reliability of the AS mechanisms.

At that time I think we had people around the 10,000 shutters mark with no reported problems.

I'm at 3500 snaps on my 7D and no problems to report.

From a testing standpoint, this would have been an easy mechanism for KM to test reliability on. I would think they would have tested the AS mechanism to extremes.

Sorry to hear about your need to return, but, it happens with all products.

Try to enjoy the Christmas Holiday and we'll wish for a speedy return. : )

Thanks for the well wishes for the repair and return. I have read mostly v. positive things about the KM repair facility in NJ. Now, I get to conduct my own study :-)

Fortuntely, I have about 5 other cams to use over the holidays so this does not represent a huge inconvenience - just a minor PITA...

Thanks Pete, Tom, and Matt.
I am "somewhat" reassured :-)

I guess if power saving is not a concern, I can continue keeping it on constantly.

Thanks.
