I seem to remember reading that Canon USA will warranty grey market items for 1 year. Is there any truth to this?

This question keeps going back and forth and everyone is assuming, just like you. Anyone out there have a grey camera break and send it in? Did Canon cover it? If not would they repair it at all (Nikon will not)? If so, was the price reasonable? Any first-hand experience would help the whole forum. Thanks.

I assume not, wouldn't that defy the point of having a USA Warranty?

I have a grey market d-30 w/ an extended warranty from Mack. Mack will repair any defects under the Canon warranty for 1 yr. since their a authorized Canon repair facility. The three year extended is then covered by Mack.

That would depend on the warranty that came with the camera... some models have a World Wide warranty... if this is the case then yes, and the Canon dealer is obliged to repair it. However, some models come with country specific warranties (depends where you got it from, country etc)

I work in a Canon Pro centre and we have had a few grey imports that were duly sent in under warranty... hope that helps a bit
