I still didn't receive my G2 and after speaking to a CSR, I was told to go the sales division to get a more accurate delivery date. A salesperson initially refused to help and he wanted to transfer my back to customer service but I insisted to get more info. out of him. Turns out, he still didn't know the exact delivery date and he said that they have 89 or so G2's in their warehouse and my order "might be lost in the system"...

Eighty nine units? How many of us are still waiting here?

That's it for me, I'm playing with this game any more. I'm going to use Amex Blue to get a G2 for less! It's time to move on...

Yeah, and if you go to their website, the G2 is IN STOCK!!!

I'm still waiting, I applied for the Amex, but haven't received it yet, so I don't have a better oprtion.

What got me was...I emailed and called for my status and didn't
get a reply from the salesperson, but my cancellation email was
returned in less than 5 minutes!

As for Blue, I got approved (not preapproved) online and received the card in about a week. Amex's customer service is really great.

I also placed an order with Dell 9/25. First I was told the camera would be in

10/6. Then I was told it would be in 10/16. Today when I checked on-line I see that my order will ship 11/8. I tried calling the rep that I have been dealing with to see if they would expedite the order. He is not available today. I expect I'll hang in unitl I can find the same or better price ($720)

Would you like to get really upset?

I placed two orders for the Canon G2, 1G microdrive, and spare battery within minutes of each other on 10/01/01 - one to be shipped to my Dad in CA and one to me (he wants a family member for tech support, which considering Dell's performance ain't too bad of an idea). His order shipped 10/12/01, mine (placed only moments later mind you) has an estimated ship date (and we all know what those are worth) of 10/18/01. I am one week away from my due date and REALLY wanted this camera to take pics of the new baby in the hospital, doesn't look like it's gonna happen.

And to top it all off, the Dell web page shows the Canon G2 In Stock.

I canceled my order with Dell also.

There are other good places to get it around $800...

I hate to say it, but I'm hesitant to mention where...since I need mine quite badly and don't want a rush of people to screw my own order up...

Just look around! :)

I too ordered a G2 on Sept 25, and have been checking my order status on a daily basis. It's been "stuck" at 11/07 since I placed the order, but as of a few minutes ago, the status has been changed to "shipped".

Why not go to RItz Camera or Wolf Camera and buy it for $899

maybe they will give ya a little discount if you go in to buy it. The web site says free shipping and no sales tax.

We have them here as retailers. Might be a few bucks too much, butsometimes piece of mind is worth it.

The reason to order from Dell is that they have been running off and on a 20% discount with free shipping. This means that the G2 costs about $640.00 plus tax. This is a great price. Dell normally would be considered a "good merchant" who would not hold your order hostage for the purchase of overpriced accessories. But, sad to say Dell seems to not want to ship the $640 cameras :(

Well, my salesperson said I'd have to wait 7-10 days for the next shipment.
But after I cancelled my order, the G2 is now shipped!
Go figure... May be I should have cancelled earlier :)

I could have use AmexBlue to get a cheaper G2 but I don't want to go through the refund process will Dell.

Thanks for the support in this forum.

HuNan,

How do you get a price of $640? The price is $899. 20% is $179.80. So the price should be $719.20 plus tax.

I ordered a G2 from Dell this past Sunday, 10/14 - late in the evening. I checked my order status and it says it shipped yesterday, 10/15. I have a UPS tracking number and it looks like I should be getting it tomorrow or Thursday.

I am guessing the cameras were backordered and have recently come in.

Well here at Ritz stores they add 8.8% so the total is almost $1000.

The pricematch policy is very vague. F.i. can I pricematch against
a non-local store (e.g. harmonycomputers etc.)?

My camera is due to arrive tomorrow morning. I ordered 9/23 and until it shipped, my status online said 'Call for ETA'. Suddenly the status page updated with a ship date--the day after it shipped (so much for "real time"). And I didn't get my OrderWatch e-mail until 3 days later!

So if you need the savings and you can hang on a bit--it may end up shipping quite suddenly. Dell certainly ships their PCs that way.

My two e-mails to Customer Care (one was to the small business "account rep") never received replies. In fact, Dell had the audacity to e-mail me asking me to fill out a customer care survey regarding my experience with an e-mail that hadn't received a response in over 4 days...I can't wait to fill that thing out.

Take care and best of luck!

Dell had a pricing error last month with the G2 priced at $799
before the 20% discount.

Thanks. I guess I missed out on that one! :-( I ordered mine Sunday for $719.80 ($899 minus 20%).

I missed the 20% deal =( I ordered on 9/25 with the 10% off deal, and I was told 11/8 as the ETA. However, two days ago I got an e-mail saying that it's shipped and it arrived at my doorstep today!

Ordered 9/23 with the 20% off, they had expected shipping date of 11/7 for the last two weeks, today it was shipped, and even though I have next day air, it will not arrive until Thursday. I feel fortunate to be receiving the camera knowing so many others are having problems.

Hey, guys and gals - Dell and Gateway are two of the most respected names in computer sales. But they are hurting big time and laying off people big time. No doubt there's chaos "at the ranch."

My guess is that they've gone into the camera business to get some cash flow going because computers aren't selling as they need to be to keep these leviathons afloat. Given their history, I'm sure they will honor their commitments as best they can - given the fact that people are being laid off right and left, and no doubt there's a whole bunch of pinch-hitting behind the scenes.

I don't think the average camera store has been hurt as badly as these big companies, nor are feeling the recession quite as severely. I may very well get my camera from Gateway ($834) and then go after an AMEX price match - because I have accumulated Gateway "Moola Dollars" on my Gateway credit card - which have to be used at Gateway.

But whether Gateway or Dell - cut them some slack, given the hard times they are undergoing.

My G2 arrived this morning! It's charging now, and no doubt my cats will be the subject of many photographs this evening. I'm dreading the stuck/dead pixel tests...wish me luck.

Take care,

Paul
