I HATE being LIED to! B&H lied to me!

for telling it like it really is...
and your D200 also.

We are entering a new world of internet and purchasing shrewdness.....

How bad do we really want something?

Wow......no more camping out......our fingers and techniques can do that for us.

The squeaky wheel has to find its' own oil, nowadays.

What lenses are you enjoying?

So if 10,000 people were notified that the camera was IN stock, and
they sold out of the few hundred they had (that QTY is a guess) in
a couple of hours - dont you think those 10,000 folks would be even
more angry than NOT being notified??
I'd rather have a slim chance than none at all- wouldn't you? People understand that notification isn't a guarantee that something's in stock- only that it was at the time the notification was sent out. All most folks want is to be treated fairly, and that's not what happened here.

Besides, if 150 units isn't enough to trigger the notification, how many are?
Why not?

B&H shouldn't be exempt from criticism, especially in this
instance. Remember, they offered to notify us when the shipment
came in, and 10,000 people were deliberately not notified. I'd
call that a legitimate grievance.

do you think that B&H owe you something
they are doing the best they can
this is a photography forum....
not your personal ***** forum
so, grow up and realize that they are doing the best they can
there are only so many cameras
there are only so many portals into their internet ordering system
good grief
you type this like you think someone deprived you of oxygen
it's a camera man.... grow up

live life like you mean it...
but take your family and friends along for the 'ride'

I guess I agree that if B&H has that option available, that they should follow through with it. I guess that is why they are in the process of removing the option from their site ;-).

The reason you don't have a D200 is because you do not know what is going on.

B&H is still by far the best camera store out there, no matter what you say.

I have bought from them about 30 items and had only one miniscule problem. I wish other vendors were the same. Just put it in the right context.

NOT NOTYING you of the arrival of the MESSIAH (I mean D200), my God, what an aweful mistake!!!

I suggest you and others who think that the whole world must stop revolving, if they are not the ones to first get the latest toys - get real.

Please, show more maturity and shoot pictures for haven sake.

Go and deal with them. This cry-baby stuff is pathetic. How many times in my life do I have to deal with problems and no, I don't write a word about it in public. It's being sort of sissy, if you ask me.

Two months from now (maybe three) every camera store will a D200 on it's shelf next to the very popular D70. What will these loud poster rant about then?

John

These things often happen when a hot new product first hits the market. Chill out and wait until the stampede eases. Your existing camera will serve you just fine until then.

You can do as I did -- I just ordered the D200, and it will arrive when it arrives. Nobody needs this camera right now. There are plenty of other cameras at that price that will take pictures as fine as any pro could need.

Have you noticed how when photography went from film to digital, the thinking of some (many?) buyers changed from an emphasis on photography to an emphasis on cameras? Now the camera is thought of like an iPod or a or a GameBoy -- they all want the latest model. In the golden age, a good camera was more like a piano or a good pair of hiking boots. All that mattered was that the tool gave excellent results.

Take it easy, and enjoy your D70 for however long. I'll certainly make the most of mine while I wait for my D200.

Best regards,

Oh, you mean Infinity Photo. Then there is Genesis Photo, A&M Photo, Regal Camera. I think they are all the same outfit. This poster, who is having so much trouble with B&H, honestly needs to deal with one of these. It would be a genuine humbling experience for him. He thinks B&H lied to him, gosh he needs to look lie up in the dictionary.
You mean BestPriceCamera.

The D200's probably a piece, anyways. ;-)

Every business has faults. The question is what their ratio (or percentage). It's like on e-bay, if someone has sold 546,000 items and they have 99.9% positive, they still have in fact 54 unhappy customers. With the amount of business B&H does, it is quite surprising that there are very few complaints.

Most successful businesses become complacent and their service deteriorates once they have achieved high market penetration (look at Dell). It is good to keep tabs and ensure we still have good camera stores to shop at, but whining so badly for such reasons is really uncalled for.

Howdy Greg,

While I agree the Ken may have gone a little overboard, I do understand where he is coming from. I myself had sent them several e-mails on ordering a D200, offered to pre-order with credit card, and they responded by telling me :

"When the D200 does become available, it wil! l be listed on our web site. We receive (thankfully) too many requests to keep "pre order lists" or to call back customers when product becomes available. You can register to be notified when the camera does become available on our web site. On the cameras product page, click the "Notify when in stock" link and enter your E-Mail address."

So, I too was a little disappointed in them not at least notifying the ones that did try to register or get on a waiting list. I had sent mine in about the 1st week in November, I wasn't looking for any special treatment, just for them to do what they had written. I have only ordered 2 cameras to date from them, several different camera related items over the past 5 years probably only amounting to 4-5,000.00, and although I don't expect any "Special Treatment" it would have seemed "Professional" for them to have at least sent and e-mail notifying those that showed interest and informing them of any upcoming information like they indicated.

So don't be so hard on the poor guy, he just was excited about getting his new camera!!

B&H told me they got 350 cameras on Sunday, and they did not "notify" those (like you and me, who clicked "notify me when this item is in stock") because they had "10,000 of those notifications to send, and only 350 cameras. And I would have got one, but for the fact that I was away from my computer at the time. All this time, it has been, refresh, refresh, refresh. I am as annoyed as everyone else who wants this camera, and I am sitting here with all new lens, UV filter, expodisc, SB800 speedlight, LowePro Rezo bag, and Domke camera strap; WAITING. Waiting for the main component. It is very frustrating to see all these people complaining about this and that when the majority of us think this whole product is a mirage.

Why won't Nikon tell us what the deal is? Such a great camera. But WHERE is it?

"Why won't Nikon tell us what the deal is?"

Nikon already told us the camera would be in short supply initially...weeks ago.

waited about 5 days after I placed the order .. send them infinity people a email and ask them to be very careful and include everything which is in the original box as received from Nikon ...

Anyhow... also I called them ... Now.... I was prepared for this call and after 1 1/2 hour of waiting in line and talked to several people in beweteen , just to be put back to hold and waiting longer .... ok finally i get that person.... and they actually find my order as well... now I ask them if they have a tracking number for me.... he gets all pissy and says your order is cancelled... darn I was suppose to have a little fun with the guys,, dont I ?

No. after 2 hours on the phone this was WAY TO EASY ... so I say a few choice words and than good buy.... here comes the highlight.... The idiot calls me back and threathens me with some outfit who regulates foul languages with mailorder outfits.. what a joke .... this is calling the kettle black I suppose... anyhow I immedeately called the credit card company and tried to make sure that those boneheads cannot do anything with my credit card...

Than i had a cocktail, relaxed and order the camera boady and a few extra accessories from B & H ..I originally planned to buy a package deal from Eaby, but the low price from Infinity made me buy the lenses somewhere else ... Now I have spend roughly 300 bucks more than on one of those package deals on ebay... but In all reality. I have a better tripod ( a compact one, which will fit in the bag ) more storage ( 1 extra 512 card) plus the one gig, a lens cover to protect the 18-55 nikon lense and such...... so I am not all too bitter .... lol ...lol

Thanks Thor
