Hi

Me and a friend started a new website in South Africa, the idea is to sell photographs of events that we will cover. We will also try to sell a few prints of our own photos. Your crits will be welcomed! What do you think of the general layout and usability?

http://www.photofind.co.za

Thanks a lot!

I have a very, very high speed fiber optic connection and, well, you're site responded like a dial-up. Of course, it is half way around the world so who knows how many routers et al. it's going thru.

Viewing it here at work on a T1 is DREADFULLY slow.

I attempted to view 2 pics, got frustrated, and moved on.

Not what you want customers to experience on your page.

Not sure what type of connections your clients will have in South Africa, but you need to consider that...

For me, the joy of photography is not about taking
great pictures. It's getting the chance
to take pictures at all.

As well as slow - it is a bit clunky. I also think it is a bad idea to let clients see number of views and also to see how many pictures are in the system. Also this will work well for a small number of pictures, but you will need to get some sort of search engine if you are going to have many more pictures.

Hope this helps,
Steve

Thanks guys, I was worried that it will be an issue, as I am on the LAN and don’t see the speed issues. My employee did us a favor and gave us permission to use their infrastructure and line for free (a fast connection is still VERY expensive here), guess that we must start looking for good service providers now.

Thanks for all your time, I’m 100% with you, you can’t have a site running this slow trying to sell something!

Will let you know as soon as we have a proper hosting solution!

I like your site!

I also recognized that photo of the lady on your library page; it’s on the http://www.imaginative-traveller.com travel brochure main page!

I am not worthy ;) You don’t maybe have a job opening ;)

I'm doing a trip to China next year April with them!!

Thanks for your input, we are definitely going to use lower res images, I also started with a type of search engine and paging mechanism... but firstly I must sort out the speed mess...

I didn't read others responses, but nowhere could I find on your site where you are located. The main page of your website should answer who, what, when, where and why.

Hey thanks for the nice comments. I have done a lot of work with Imaginative Traveller. They are a good company and run by good people!

As for the website - it is done using a program called freeway which is a Mac based program. It easily links in to a database program which runs on an apple imac in the office. Setting the thing up was kind of easy - I set it up myself!
