Hi.

I have a b-300 lens that I purchased a few months back so I could take advantage of a $100 "accessory" rebate that came with my oly2100. The problem is, I have not used the b300 even once since it arrived. The combination of the 2100+b300 is too big and bulky to use casually without scaring your non-photography loving friends, and even otherwise, I don't like fuddling with teleconverter lenses with out in the field.

Do you think I should sell the lens now, or wait until later? The reason I might wait is becuase I will buy a new camera to replace the 2100, which would most likely NOT have a 380+ mm zoom; in this case the b300 might actually be useful. However, I am afriad that if I wait the value of the lens might go down. I am confident I can currently get $200 for it on ebay.

What do you guys think? Will the selling value of the b-300 increase/decrease or stay the same in the coming years?

I saw one online the other day for $160, so if you think you can get $200 for it, I would do it now.

I would wait . . . It seems to me Olympus is not bringing back this lens to market anytime soon, if ever. And sites will post that they have them in stock when they really don't (probably, just to get your email address). Even if Olympus brings another B300 clone to market it will probably be of cheaper materials. I've owned 35mm equipment and lense's for years and the B300 is quite a quality piece of glass. So much so, that I thought nothing of buying a new one from another forum member (Hi Les!) for $217 two weeks ago. I view this lens as an investment that will probably appreciate in the future and If need be, I could possibly use it with rings to fit my future camera purchases. Hey, I just spent $350 for a plastic FL-40 flash setup (actually worth every penny, when it comes to it's automatic operation with my Uzi, Bot a Vivitar 285 and returned it) so $217 for a lens to me was no biggy! Since the stock markets fall in March of 2000 . . . my family is getting used to the taste of catfood anyway (I get them the premium fancy feast type stuff, so no one can say that I don't care of my family) so I didn't feel all that guilty spending so much on all this gear.

If I were you, I'd keep it . . . you could always "barter it" for another piece of equipment you might need in the future.

Hi Mark.

Thanks for the interest. Can I think about it for a couple days? IF I decide to sell the lens, I will e-mail you first.

Hi Saswat - I agree with Paul that you should keep it for now depending what you might get in the future. HOWEVER if you do decide to sell it... despite Mark’s generous offer, I would consider selling it on E-Bay as they are going anywhere from $230 to $275 and they’ll pay shipping on top
of that.

Good luck – Dave Greene

And people actually think they are getting bargains on e-bay. Wow!

Hi.

I finally decided to sell my b-300 lens; the link is below:

http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1286736822&r=0&t=0&showTutorial=0&ed=1003975533&indexURL=0&rd=1

I want to thank you guys for your advice. Philosophically speaking, I would have liked to keep this lens and play with it one day when I got the time. Practically speaking, that time may not come for a while, and being a broke grad-schooler, I opted for the quick bucks. Thanks again.

I have one I haven't used since I got the Tiffen 2x tele converter. I'd sell mine for $200, for sure.
