Hi there,

Over the past few days many have expressed an interest in a fun challenge to get us talking about pictures taken with our Sony cameras.

No prizes, just the pleasure of seeing lots of great pictures, learning more about how to improve and generally having fun.

Here are the guidelines:
  • The thread will be open for nearly 2 weeks with a cutoff Wednesday 24th October.
  • Look at the challenge and then go and take pictures - lots of them :-). Select your favorite and post it.
  • The owner of the 'best' picture by consensus will be given the honor of choosing the topic of the next challenge.
  • Please only post one picture!
  • Please only post pictures you took since the challenge began. No digging up old favorites.
So here's the first challenge:

Happiness is...........

Have fun
Robert

PS - Thanks to Tracey, Ed and Jay for the help.

Rob --

1. Can we submit a photo and then change our mind and submit a different one before the contest ends?

2. All Sony camera owners are invited to participate, correct? We don't want to make this an exclusive thing just for F707 people.

I don't feel that I own this but heck, someone needs to make the call as we get it going.

1) Absolutely, please resubmit.

2) What's a 707? Just kidding. All Sony cameras and all users of this forum.

simple question,

how will you know which pic is gonna be submitted to the contest?

since lots of members post various pics here during different times, whats stopping someone from posting a pic to get reactions and critiques and once a pic becomes favorable that thats ends up being the pic that the person submits.

i could easily post 20 pics from now to the 24th and the one people like the most will be the one i submit. What can prevent this and who are the judges???

is this question valid??

Robert,

I understood we had until Oct. 24 to post pictures? Maybe everyone is waiting until the last moment. I haven't even started thinking about it yet, although I should,

Robert,

I hope to enter as soon as I get the right shot, but I just had one suggestion: Can we make it that only pictures get posted until the very end, otherwise the thread will get out of control and it will be hard to know where to find the actual entries amongst the replies/comments?

I guess this will be tough as it will be hard for people not to post follow-ups if there's a particular comment or question they have on the image. Maybe there needs to be 2 threads, one with pictures the other with replies? I don't know, what do you think?

That's definitely what I am doing Helen, but I have been taking some pics already.

However as I have never posted any of my pictures for critical review, I am biding my time and waiting to see some from other folk first ;-)

However if the submission deadline is local time, then us folks in Asia will have to post half a day ahead of those over in the US...

Anyway Robert I am looking forward to this innaugural STF Challenge, and I am sure that it will be useful to all, even if we do encounter a few teething problems with its operation.

Here is mine to get this deal started. I welcome comments as well. I hope I do not need to post the settings as I do not recall them.

Hi Robert --

Watching with interest (I won't have my camera for a while), and it's a most entertaining concept.

WRT embedding, it varies considerably, depending where you have your photos hosted. Have you teed up a storage site with your own gallery, or will you be putting them loose on a web server somewhere? Also, if you haven't been there yet, first click either "Sony Talk" or "^ Forum" above this message and then look in "Rules/Help". Note that the basic instructions here apply to a loose image -- the galleries usually have their own ways of embedding.

This picture has been taken with the F707, it has not be altered in any way (no sharpening, etc.). If you want to see the full pic (warning: over 2 megs), click on the picture. I also took several videos and I really love the quality of this camera.

Before I get any marriage offers: yes, this is me and I'm already married. :-)))
