Still no orders taken at B&H?

You would think B&H would be taking orders by now, but nothing on
their web site.
--

Called B&H in the last hour, and they basically said nothing. I would think as just posted, that Thursday or Friday at the worst, may be a good idea given the Ritz shipping posts. Ritz said any new orders would not ship until the next batch comes to them in January. I hope B&H does not drag their feet updating the website as soon as they become available. I would think ordering online will be far easier than waiting on hold or getting busy signals when they are released.

I've been calling at least 4 times a day. (was actually told to call often by one of the reps.)

I just called today (again) at 11am mst and was told they wont get them until late Dec.

Makes me wonder if they really do have their "Secret" preorder list and its already full.

As in Bill and Teds great Adventure; "Strange things are afoot at the B&H"

Something is definately strange. Adorama also says the same thing. You would think dealers that large would at least get a few cameras at the same time as Ritz. I sure hope I didn't pick the wrong dealer this time.

i think it is indicative of the fact they probably don't know when they are getting product.

If Ritz already has them in stock and is shipping, how on earth can B&H not know how many they will get? Surely they must have possession of them by now.

I have no reason at all to distrust B&H. Since I started buying from them five years ago, they have never done anything shady.

Their scrupulous honesty requires them to resist pressure and follow their policy of not taking orders on anything which is not in stock. The fact that they have lost a lot of D200 orders over this policy, and are still standing fast, says a lot about their integrity.

Of course, if I miss the first wave because I have chosen to remain loyal to them I will be extremely disappointed. For my own peace of mind, I just sent Henry Posner an e-mail asking him to respond to the "Something fishy" post.

I'm hoping that Henry will ease our minds.

Does it occur to anybody but me that the fault may be with Ritz? Isn't it possible that they are anticipating their shipment and acting on that for marketing advantage?

Yesterday I got, "late december."

Today when I called (minutes ago) I said, "I'm interested in the D200", the saleman said, "Sure!" enthusiastically. My heart skipped a beat and than I said, "Well!?" And then he kind of chuckled and said, "Any time now, keep calling back." At least they are keeping a sense of humor rather than being annoyed at the hundreds of calls they are probably getting!

Roberts isnt shipping, Calumet isnt shipping, Helix isnt shipping, Adorama not shipping, B&H not shipping, but Ritz is?

Ritz is not shipping to my knowledge. They just started charging folks' cards. The management at Adorama absolutely does not believe they actually have product now.

Katherine,

I hope you are right, and I'm not trying to dampen your enthusiasm, but:

'Shipped just now" may be a defined differently by a vendor. A tracking number that tracks to "left NYC at on " is something that all can agree on.

and by Pictureline today about D200s having been shipped today from Nikon to them. Looks like Friday's when most places may have some to ship. Maybe not as many as each store wanted initially though

YMMV

I called them today, seeing what they had, and the rep told me they wont have some for a while, but quote "Nikon gave us permission to ship the preorders."

So, it makes me wonder if Stores DO in fact have them but are not allowed to start selling them till the 15th.
Kind of like DVDs or XBox's etc...
They have them but cant sell them till THE DAY!

who knows..

Way back when, I read something here about Ritz getting the "lion's share" of the initial shipment for some reason. Doesn't make sense though.

Well, I don't know if that rumor is true or not, but it only makes sense to me that Ritz has to be one of Nikon's biggest mover and shakers of their products and possibly this their reward. I might be wrong here, I don't really know, but a while back Ritz heavily discounted Nikon's coolpix 8400 and I checked all the usual susoects(B&H, adorama etc) at that time and none of them even came close to Ritz's Discounted price(an exclusive I beleive) of $499 then and now $399.00. So I tend to think that Nikon "approved" of this price for them.
