Makes you want to go exploring. Are there trout in that stream?

I get cold looking at that picture. Thanks for braving the weather and sharing. Does that river usually freeze?

Puts me in the mood to read some more Jack London stories. I remember once about 30 years ago I took some film pictures like that in the Appalachians.

I prefer the first one slightly, because the stream leads you up and into the picture.

Thanks for shari(brr)ng with us.

It seems that the areas that have a lot of snow take care of it.

The first few of the year is always nice ... but it get tedious as storms come more frequently.

Neat shots John. I find much the same conditions in Toronto with streams still open and flowing in the snow. What I find in ravine and valley situations such as yours is the extreme range. In the end I have found it best to do as you have done and let the snow highlights go and make sure the shadow and dark areas show enough detail to be interesting. What I find really missing in most of my shots is the touch of colour to give some depth to a photo. I have tried to find some greenery or berries and use the fill flash to liven but that doesn't often work too well.

John,

Where exactly is your cabin? I remember going to skool, struggling uphill in a blizzard with nothing on but my pyjamas and 60 pounds of school books, when it was 30 below zero in January and still dark in the morning, and the snow was way deep, much above my head and whole villages disappeared...;).

but sixteen feet? in the east? Why I don't remember anything 'buv 9 feet back during the blizzard of 64.

Nice shot. (But still, we shouldna pull the legs of them folks from away too much, they might not believe that grass grows up here in the great white north).
