I have started digiscoping with my binocular some time ago, soon went back to my canon A70: the results were better and 3 MPixel is enough!
But seeing now that skywatchers can do digiscoping made me envious.
So let's have a look:
  1. 1 head of a fungus gnat

  1. 2 midge

  1. 3 small spider

  1. 4 "skin" and eye of a small wasp

Not dead sharp? ok granted!
But all theses structures are smaller than 1mm and this is my first try!
... and all creatures are hidden in amber!

FZ5, F-adapter, 6* ocular, Leitz microscope, 10* objective

thanks John,
japanes maples, enlarging lenses, microscope - conincidences...
I have worked with better lenses (Zeiss planapochramatic, phase contrast..).

But this is my own microscope - believe it or not - found in a waste container! But the lenses were missing.

that would be too tiny without macro equipment. Of course better
microscopes you get with more money, but experimenting is fun,
isn´t it?
thanks Jussi,
the microscope is ok, the lenses and the light are essential!

..and this is fun! All this gold, like specimen prepared for electron micrsocopy!

Excellent experiment! Very cool results and it will get even better
with more experiments. Great job!
thanks arthur,

there will be better results, but I will need a technique combining the sharp elements of different slices. Is there a photoshop filter/macro for this task?
Sven

this is my golden christmas spider.
Playing with aperture increases DOF even with microscopes

This is a vivid version of a 40 million years old spider !

Please post your opinion to these experiments!

I also have a Canon A70 which I still use quite a bit along with my FZ20. What equipment do you use with your A70 for 'digiscoping'?

I started my experiments - simply setting the canon on top of the ocular.
Today I am using an american F-adapter -> 52mm sold via ebay in europe.

thanks Tom,
excellent link!!
I was searching for this solution!

I think we appreciate these shots for different reasons Sven. For me they are very atmospheric, these strange looking creatures from millions of years ago surrounded by black, as if they're drifting in a void. And the colors are just stunning. In my opinion these photos attain the level of art even if that is not your purpose. I get the feeling your interest lies more in the technical/scientific. Which is fine. That was Eadweard Muybridge's interest as well and his photographs are appreciated for their artistic merits. Anyway, best of luck. I do look forward to seeing what you come up with next.

Hi meatyard,
you have to fight against technique first to reach art!
Ansel Adams was a master of technique and....

This was my first digiscoping test, my results with normal lenses are much better. The fog around DOF is lifting now, there will be different results soon.

The strange atmosphere results from this golden appearance. All these animals look like being prepared for electron microscopy 40 million years ago.

I use special light to let the amber disappear. The black background is a good combination for these golden creatures, but any other colour is possible.
Sven

Tom you helped me so much!
Look at this:

This is not my normal quality, but look at the DOF:
12 layers and you get the whole spider in one minute!
thanks so much!

I'm happy to see such good results in such a short time. I had looked at this software's website and bookmarked it but hadn't done anything with it. I am certainly more intrigued now.

We will be looking forward to more results from you! :)

my lenses and the amber are the limiting factor now.
I need a new setup.....
But there is some success. Look here:
traditional method (achromats)

digiscoping 26 pictures overlay

and here is the golden eye (of a midge)

again

tiny objects, the head is around 0.1 mm
