These pictures are excellent IMO (most are ISO 50 on a tripod). I have been watching the G2 threads in the Canon forum (which haven't been that great) when I came upon these pictures. Would love to see more of this kind of photography from the F707. BTW this is his first digital camera....I'm still waiting to hear the final verdict from the 2 people on this forum that have bought the F707 & the G2 to do comparison shots. I by the way am impatiently awaiting the arrival of my F707 from Sears.

Angela, you can see more of Anders fantastic pictures from the island Singö north of Stockholm if you exclude the G2 from his URL. Soooooooo impressive - a fantastic photographer - as someone commented on his pictures "I guess you could get fantastic photos with a spoon". Pictures like that makes me wonder why I even bother using a camera.

Can you say Hallmark Card? This is why your other thead about the 707 seems a little silly. He's a fine photographer whose work might end up as clip art. OK, maybe Apple clip art. Pretty. Pretty pretty pretty.

Eva,

I agree, he sure inspires you though! Thanks for the tip on his other pictures, I will check them out today. He said he was not a professional photographer so that really wowed me.

Yes, but would the pictures have been as good with the Sony F707?

Did you notice that shot of the boat in the dock that was heavily backlit... and no purple fringing?

How about that red boat (or any of the reds, for that matter)?

The heavily lit green leaves against the dark house?

I haven't gotten my F707 yet and only have the samples I've been seeing from others to judge against the many shots I've seen so far from the G2. However, I can't help but wonder why we're not seeing at least an occasional stunning shot like these here.

WOW!!! It shocks me for a movement
Thanks angela for the link!!!

Dylan,

I too have been looking at images taken on the G2
As much as I love Sony cameras, I have an 85.
there is something more natural and lifelike
about the average image taken on a G2

I just don't see the hardness, and over saturated colors.

I'm not talking about the very best shots as seen in this thread
I'm talking about comparing everyday shots.

The question we should ask.
If Canon came out with a 707 like camera at $999
how many of us would buy the Sony?

Don't shoot me - I'd probably buy the Canon

Does anyone know anything about the shots on their
90 versus the G2?

Dylan,

No argument: The G2 has great color.

However, you folks should also remember that we're seeing processed reductions of the best shots of an obviously very talented guy. You can be sure he has some shots that have problems, but he's not posting them.

Right now, we're in the phase where people are posting just about everything they're shooting with their new 707s. In fact, some people are even selecting the worst shots e.g., "My 707 screws up on this shot. Is mine broken or is everybody's doing this???"

Seriously, this same kind of stuff happens when every new camera comes out. I remember when people were looking at Pekka's galleries from over on the Canon forum and wondering if there was anything wrong with their S75s and S85s. Ironically, when Canon people got D30s and weren't getting results as good as Pekka's G1 results, some started doubting the D30.

I think I'm going to post a reminder message on some postprocessing tips...

The Pro90 is a nice camera. Excellent 10x image stabilized zoom, but the camera has many of the G1 shortcomings (metering, CA, focus, magenta cast) eliminated (for the most part) in the G2. I also was put off by the vignetting at full wide (particularly in scenes not illuminated by midday sun), and the 2-6 second shooting lag due to always on noise reduction. Rumor is that canon is working on a update to Pro90 to be announced at the end of this month (which may address some of the shortcomings, but will probably not result in a boost to the megapixel count).

Yes Bryan we are anxiously awaiting the arrival of your 707 to see some comparison shots. Did you order through Sears?

You are absolutely right. I still have a question for you.

If Canon came out with a camera with the features of the 707 (5x zoom, focusing system, nigh shoot etc) and the image quality of the G2 and they called it the XYZ.

Would you buy the Sony 707 or the XYZ. Just curious.

Thanks Rob

Ron, Your post reminded me of something an expert but humble photographer told me many years ago ..." the difference between a photographer and a great photographer is that the great photographer only shows his ( her) great pictures."

can you say photoshop!

yes, this guy has an eye for composition but lets face it, some of those pics have been photoshopped.
especially: a8m, a14m, b1, b3, b5,

its amazing how photoshop can clean up a pic
that my opinion anyways.

Tough call. The G2 has its own share of quirks. It's not as sharp as the 707 and its high ISO performance isn't great. It would be a very tough choice. Right now I would lean towards the XYZ, but I might give you a different answer tomorrow.

Those are about the finest pictures I've seen from a digital camera. Awesome. The G2 is obviously a great camera. So is the F707 from what I've seen elsewhere.

I would point out that the G2, F707 or anything else is a tool for photography. The main thing that makes those pictures so great is not the camera but the photographer. I'll sum it up in one word: TALENT. Don't underestimate it. That may be his first week with a DIGITAL camera, but it's certainly not his first week with a camera!

Look at those again and ask yourself, what time of day/night was he taking that picture? He was up at dawn and dusk. Ask yourself if you would think to take a medium close-up of a rusty lock. Or leaves on some sticks. There's a LOT more to making great pictures than having a great camera.

And if you think those G2 pics are nice, check out the rest of his photos at http://medlem.tripodnet.nu/singo/ and you'll be even more amazed. I wonder how many people will do that and then start Ebaying their G2s to go buy an EOS Elan II.

Ron

I'm increasingly in the same boat
I like my 85
I'm gonna feel so stoopid if I upgrade after 3 months
and then a few weeks later
a better camera comes out
and we all know it will

Now if my most recent purchase was 2 years ago.....
