Managed to get out and spend another early morning chasing the elusive "right place/ right time" combination. Really loving this camera.

I've decided to take Ken Rockwell's advice about jpeg v RAW - those raw files are just too big, and I'm starting to get the hang of Photoshop. Still shooting with RAW at this early stage, but only processing jpegs. If I strike any weird problems I can go back and see if RAW helps. So far I can't see any difference at all between the two files (shooting with sat, contrast and sharpen turned right off.)

pics are here.

You are a very blessed person to be able and shoot these beautifull pictures in your near the place you live.
Some of these photographs are really stunning!
By the way, have you owned also the 828 ?

I like most of your pictures a lot. They're very moody - they sure look like they were taken very early in the morning. I think my favourite is DSC00433, then I like all your fog pictures a lot. I'm looking forward to some more of your 'dawn in New Zealand' galleries!

BTW, you have a very picturesque neighbourhood!

You, the R1 and the landscape make a great combination!

Take the scenic route! Life is too short to do otherwise.

Thanks for the compliments. Yes I did have an 828 - most of the images in my first album ( http://bexxpixx.blogspot.com/ ) were shot on an 828.

I later had a Minolta A200 which was smaller, had similar or better picture quality, and a beautiful wide angle converter.

The R1 blows them both away for image quality in larger prints.

umm. thats just creepy. I hop on dpreview to see how the R1 is shaping up and you are posting pictures of the canal that runs by my house.

A very nice picture of the canal, btw.

but thats still just a little bit creepy. can this world get any smaller?

Next up i'll be searching for a blender and find photos of my kitchen. hehe.

Hi Bexxpix

Am a frequent visitor to the South Island and have great images from my 717 especially Tekapo and Wanaka areas but can't wait to return to use my R1, mainly there in April for the fabulous autumn colours and know the R1 will surpass all I had hoped for.
Great land Great Camera.

man. i'm gonna have to stand in the front yard and wave a broom to scare away all the R1 users flocking around these parts. They are getting as thick as lake flies.

i'm still kinda torn between the r1 and a dslr. i know the arguments on both sides, but its still tough. The mega low noise of the canons is tempting, but the live preview. hmm. I've got about $1500 saved up from selling stock images from my f717... so i can go either way.

anyways. didnt mean to threadjack or digress.

Your shots really are nice. I dont think i've ever seen halswell looking alluring before.
