Finallly got an add on zoom for my S2. Crystal Vue SH20. Pictures taken with just the S2 and digital zoom on 36x-48x come out much better than with the lens and digital zoom off. When I use both the lens and digital zoom on the pictuires come out extremely soft? (light, faded and grainy)
I set the camera for tele add on. I shot all these in Auto mode.

What am I doing wrong? Is it the lens? Is it that the digital zoom of the S2 is still better than an add on lens at 1.5-2.0?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

my experience is that zoom lenses are very quality and matching critical for cameras like the S1 and S2 and most likely your crystal lens is just not a very good match for the camera. Likewise I've read that the cheap 2x tele lenses advertised on ebay give poorly focused results with bad edge blurring etc.

The cheap lens converters on ebay are useless. It's not your fault on setting or something, it's the converter itself. I am afraid you can't do anything to make it better

Hi,
I tried my Soligor 2x telelens that worked fine with my old Casio
QV-4000 (it wasn't cheap). Combined with my S2 I have
pics where nothing is sharp and every border between dark and bright
has bad blue CA.

I'll try to sell it on ebay and get one where I can check a test pic at Lensmate.
Regards
Jo

I agree with the other posts that the problem is with the lens. Check the teleconverter on this link, where you can see photos taken with the S2.

Yes, I believe you're right, but he did recommend it for use with the (i.e. my) S2. I'm not sure what he based this advice on, but thought he might be able to give some insight.

Hi I have heard good reviews on the sony VCL- DH1758 has anyone tryed it on the S2IS. I was thinking using it instead of the olympus TCON - 17.
The sony is lighter and has a 58mm thread

yes so would i. I am pretty shour the sony will work on the S2. hear is the specs of both the sony and canon in camera lanses.

sony DSC - H1 12x

F = 6.0 - 72.0mm
1 : 2.8 - 3.7

Canon S2 IS 12x

F = 6.0 - 72.0mm
1 : 2.7 - 3.5

I would love to see a image comparison between the olympus

TCON - 17 the sony VCL - DH1758 the sony VCL - HGD1758 and the Canon TC - DC58N thay are all 1.7x except for the canon is 1.75x.

All the lenses i mentioned are 58mm exsept the olympus TCON witch is 55mm and needs a step down ring to fit the S2 adapter.
and yes it will fit the 58mm lansmate adapter.

hehheh. I would get the Sony now but I really won't be using it much until this summer, so I'm waiting. Thx for the comments on the color. I have it set to "high saturate, with contrast low and sharpening medum, ev minus one step. I have found that represents what my eyes sees more accurately - although sometimes grass can be too "amped". But I find it overall more accurate than normal saturation.
