Have you got the recommended specification on your computer?

I am tempted but would rather spend the money on 14-30 f2 :-)

I'm interested, but what do you get that you can't already do with adobe camera raw and the bridge?

I recently tried to calibrate my 20" iMac G5 and discovered that the monitor severely clips shadows and highlights so now I'm questioning the value of using that monitor for photography (which is why I bought it).

this is curious - how did you calibrate the monitor?

Before You Install Aperture

This document contains system requirements and things to do before you install the application. For the latest information, see the Late-Breaking News file, available from the application Help menu.

WARNING: The Aperture installer performs a system requirements check before installing. If your system does not meet the minimum requirements listed below, Aperture will not be installed.

Minimum Hardware Requirements
• One of the following Macintosh computers:
• Power Mac G5 with a 1.8 gigahertz (GHz) or faster PowerPC G5 processor
• 17- or 20-inch iMac G5 with a 1.8 GHz or faster PowerPC G5 processor
• 15- or 17-inch PowerBook G4 with a 1.25 GHz or faster PowerPC G4 processor
• 1 gigabyte (GB) of random-access memory (RAM)
• Display with 1280 x 854 or higher resolution
• One of the following graphics cards:

• ATI Radeon X800 XT Mac Edition, X850 XT, 9800 XT, 9800 Pro, 9700 Pro, 9600 XT, 9600 Pro, or 9650
• ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 or 9600
• NVIDIA GeForce 6600, 6600 LE, 6800 Ultra DDL, 6800 GT DDL, or 7800 GT
• NVIDIA Quadro FX 4500
• DVD drive for installation

Minimum Software Requirements
• Mac OS X v10.4.3 (or later)

Recommended Configuration
• Power Mac G5 with dual 2 GHz or faster PowerPC G5 processors
• 2 GB of RAM
• One of the following graphics cards:
• ATI Radeon X800 XT, 9800 XT, or 9800 Pro
• NVIDIA GeForce 6800 or Quadro FX 4500

I've got the box and the RAM but evidently my graphics card (Apple OEM GeForce FX 5200) is obsolete - my G5 Dual 2GHZ is just over a year old...;-(

I've just installed Aperture on my 1.25GHz/2GB Powerbook (my primary working tool). Turns out that you can tweak the minimum installation requirements by editing the .plist file for the program, once it's installed, so it should be possible to copy the program and support files onto a machine manually, then tweak the parameters to suit.

However...

...Aperture IS a resource hog - memory, processor and drive space. My first impressions are that it is capable, but slow, particularly on the file import. I suspect that this is largely down to its use of a proprietary database to store its working files. Importing 200 E-1 RAW images took over 30 minutes - I'm used to about 2 minutes with iView MediaPro.

I'm reviewing Aperture against IVMP, Bridge/CS2 and (hopefully) C1, for workflow and image manipulation capabilities. That may appear over the holidays, if I can find the time...
