I want to upgrade from 20D to 5D because of the handling, feel and viewfinder of the 5D. Also I want the better Iso ability.

Is there anyone alround who has regretted to buy the 5D?

Hm?

the 5d is worlds better then the 20d. The biggest improvement for me was focus. The 5d is dead on accurate. Now that I can count on the autofocus and it being consistant, it allows me to be more aggressive in choosing my aperture= smaller Depth of field which = more pop in my pictures.

Also the image quality overall looks better, often the 20d picks look flat next to my 5d picks.

But I have none. It's the best camera I have ever owned. And I've owned some nice cameras; Leica M4, Canon F-1, Hasselblad SWC. But this baby does everything except transparencies. So I'm not selling the M4. ;-)

only that I traded in my 10d which would have been a great back-up cam :-(...love the 5d though.

Thank you Eric.. :-)

But,... to be picky,...There is one "flaw" IMO in the design that isn't in the other DSLR's from Canon that I've owned..

The buttons on the rear .....by the LCD actually stick out a bit,...they are all pretty flush on the other cameras,....and it allows my nose to turn on the menue and info screens while shooting... That's about the only thing, and I just have to be aware of this while shooting,...I am not sure how people with smaller noses have been affected by this design change, because unlike Michael Jackson, I can't swap my nose for a smaller one.. ;-)

That's it.. I just ordered the vertical grip..and should have that by next week.. :-) If it comes down to it,... I'll have plastic surgery to have my nose reduced in size before I give up my 5D! jk :-)

With any luck the D200 will drive the price down a few $$ before Xmas and I can see if I can wring a refund for that out of B&H. Or if not, holy Cow, it's a nice camera. Either way.

Canon.

of any digital that I've owned. I like the size and weight -- and image quality is stunning on 24 X 36 inch prints (about 60 X 90cm).

Thank you for your post Zetto, my 5D has been shipped to me today, I can't wait to get my hands on it. It's good to know that this is in fact a step forward compared to the 20D which I also own.
Hope will be only the wallet to regret of.

that it didn't come sooner. There are alot of photographs I've made in the past two years that I would much rather have made with this camera.

I also find with the 5D that I can hppily use large apertures and narrow DOF but the focus is spot on. It actaully makes me think the focus on my 10D was off because it was nowhere near as sharp!

I am loving using the 5D. With a 24-105L it is well weighted, great focal range and been producing some great photos that need minimal processing. My 100mmf2.8 is terrific on it and even my 70-300DO is giving much better results.

I had to upgrade to Photoshop PS2 but find Adobe Bridge a major step forward - I shoot only in RAW. Does tend to fill up the CF card quickly!

I had ugraded my PC early in the year and have plenty of grunt for handling the larger files.

The only donwside has been the LCD display which seems to smear easily and also is hard to see in bright light but these are really minor issues.

The 5D has actually exceeded my expectations - now just need to learn to take better photos!

My 5D has had a strange effect on me. I have lost most of my interest in digital camera development because I have got the camera that I want.

This did not happen after I got my first digicam or my 10D, I kept hoping that a Canon full frame in my price range would come along.

So I only visit this forum now every few days instead of a few times every day.

I am 100% happy with my 5D.

I wholeheatedly concur with your post Steve. The 5D has satiated my DSLR appetite for better and better imaging. I'm sure that someone will come out with something better in terms of features or ergonomics, but it's going to really take some technical innovations to inprove on the 5D's overall image quality. The real room for improvement now seems to be on the optical end by producing another level of FF digital lenses to match the resolving power of the 5D, D1sII, and all future FF DSLR's from Canon. It's worth every penny of it's current cost.

LOL

Seriously, have you tried the EP-EX15 eyepiece extender? Having gone 300D, 20D, 5D, it always seems like my face is plastered against the back of the camera, so I just ordered one of these gadgets (and battery grip) today.

That this camera wasn't available when I bought my 20D. After spending 2 years struggling with WA lenses that don'tt hink they're wide angle on my D30 and then on my 20D, it is such a relief to actually mount a 16-35 that thinks it can act like one!

The other bonuses have been a much better image quality, colors seem to be richer, without being oversaturated, and tonal transitions are much smoother.
