7D, 7Di, and 9D interfaces

How about a square LCD for the 9D? Maybe 6x6 cm.

In this way, we could view a big picture (the same size as the full-screen pic in 7D) with the histogram and other info beside or under it.

It would be a big improvement in the usability, IMHO.

Of course it would imply that the vertical grip is not an accessory but an integral part of the body. (But we are talking now about the flagship 9D, so no problem there.)

Thats not a desirable solution at all. I know one can do that, but its not the way it should be done.

No but it works without corrupting the image or screwing the camera. It might put an extra cycle on the on/off switch, but other than that it's totally acceptable for those few times I screw up.

I normally lurk on these boards, but on the chance that KM actually might read this, I'd like to add my 2 cents.

1. Move the focus button/disk up higher so its more accessible to a left-eyed viewer. In fact, a little joystick around where the AEl button is would be great.

2. Make it easier to get to the diagonal sensors, but see the next point.

3. How about cross sensor points at the rule of third points? I'd trade the current setup for 5 cross sensor focusing points, one central and the other 4 at the rule of third points. Or give us a 3x3 matrix using the rule of third points as the outermost points, but make the 5 focusing points I mention as cross sensor points.

4. RGB histogram!

5. I find the rear dial hard to use. Consider the old Contax NX layout with the thumb roller at the rear instead of a dial. It also lets you scroll UP a menu. Or just make the dial easier to use.

6. Faster autofocusing would be nice too, but I'm not sure that counts as ergonomics.

7. ISO in the viewfinder

8. A true 1 degree spot meter with multi-spot metering would be nice, along with an extended scale to show the metering points in the viewfinder.

I like some of the other points mentioned too, especially the flash and firmware suggestions. But its a great camera nonetheless!

it's a live-preview and flip-able screen. It will make macro a lot easier.

I know it's not possible with the CCD used in 7D but why not add another secondary CCD like this:

This secondary CCD could be the low-res ones since the LCD doesn't have a lot of pixels to show anyway. The 0.5mp CCD should be cheap enough to put in the 9D, isn't it.

come to think about it, you can synchronize the (anti)shaking of this second CCD with the main CCD to simulate the AS effect too.

Of course, I'm not an engineer (well, software engineer doesn't count for this kind of things I think), and I know that "everything is possible.. if you don't have to do it yourself" :-)
