So what conclusion do you draw from this? That Nikon doesn't like its digital cameras? Of all the things to obsess over, choice of equipment for a calendar is VERY far down on the list.

Good pictures can have a very long life.

There are still far more images in stock houses and photo files from film than digital, and a great image can live and be used forever.

I know of a photo taken at a disaster in 1956 that is still being used in fund raising efforts of a major international organization. It is, by the way, a great image.

A national company will be using an image of mine for the cover of their 2006 catolog that was taken with a Nikon D1 in 2003, passing over many newer images of mine produced with D1x's and D2h's.

A reason to properly store and archive all your images....and maybe not worry so much about the media they are recorded on.

Also this is clear in images that Nikon uses in their brochures. The film ones are better images, look at the FM3A and F6 brochures (on paper, not online), and compare them to the D2X brochure.

Silencio, a Hearing and Eye Protection Manufacturer is using a D2X Image for thir Catalog in 2006!! I know because I shot it!!

IT was chosen not because it was shot with a D2X, but because it's the camera I used!!

Smith & Wesson used 2 of my D1X Images for their 2005 Catalog, I bet they will either recycle them or use others from the 700 Images I gave them!!

Nikon may have their own advertising people. Also, I'm sure Nikon's marketing people check the ads and have strong influence on what is put there even if they outsource the brochures.
Actually Nikon didn't shoose anything!!

Some Art Director did!!

I don't think Nikon chooses any Advertising Photograhy for any AD,
Catalog or Calendar.

Has anyone heard if/when they are coming out with a full frame calendar?

James

P.S. I'm kidding...but feel free to discuss the pros and cons anyway.

Nikon selected the best photographs taken with Nikon equipment (including the same glas used on digital cameras) - not the best photos taken by a particular model camera. This shows much greater integrity on behalf of Nikon and the calendar becomes something more than just another digital camera brochure.

No D2X. I've noticed that on Pbase too. You almost never see a bad photo taken by a D1X.

It's a small sampling but it kind of hints at the fact that most of the good photographrs are still using their D1Xs and most people who bought the D2X are rich techies who needed the latest and greatest.

My guess would be that there are ALOT more film bodies out there....hence more submitions with Film, hence more are selected!

The art work in the photos is what counts no matter where it came from even a Canon.

Yet, I am sure the analog library is larger than the digital one and that (the analog) library has the negatives and/or slides associated with the pictures which many art designers love to have.

I love the art work of the photographer.

I'm sure there are many more D2X users than D1X users already now, that's because the D2X is a much better camera. But when the brochure was made, the D2X was probably not even out yet.
