Could somebody please answer me this simple question for the G2.

Is it possible to take a picture and have the picture stored not to memory card but directly to computer over USB?

If this is the case do you get a verification on the G2 screen?

Where this is heading is laptop in bag usb link to computer. All pictures straight to 30Gig Harddisk.

I know that there is remote capture software but I cannot see if the camera MUST be controlled by the computer or if you can use it as per my question.

Simple question if I had the gear in front of me I could tell but my G2 arrives tomorrow. I guess I could wait ... No what I am saying I cant.

Yes I am the impatient type. If Id taken the time to read Phils review more carefully the answer is actually there.

When I use RemoteCapture, the picture goes directly to computer hard-disk. My problem is I cannot control camera setting through the computer. Does anyone knows?

It is possible to store pictures directly on the computer's hard disk, but only if you control the G2 from the PC. Canon's RemoteCapture software is very basic and only allows you to operate the camera in program mode. Canon's SDK allows almost full control over the camera from the PC and there is 3rd party software available which exploits this.

BTW the D30 is different. It allows you to take pictures using the camera or the PC. Unfortunately the D30's USB link is very slow (about 0.26 Mb/sec) and so it takes a while to store the picture.

Are you sure?

Phils review states that using Canons remote capture software...

"You can take a shot using either the computer keyboard or camera shutter release."

I was hoping to grab the camera attach a USB cord to my laptop chuck it in a backpack(its a work lap top) and with the verification on the camera that the picture is stored Ill have 30GB of space to store pictures. I thought it might be too good to be true.
