Pet Photographs

Hi Robert,

We don't know what type of cat Cali is. She is, according to the folks here, at least part Himilayan...though honestly we have no clue. We are her 3rd caretakers.

Thank you for the comments on the photos. I would like to try the same shots perhaps with a white background. That would be odd. Just eyes and nose.

Those are striking shots, especiallu with the contrast of the light
fur against the dark - yet not featureless - background.

What kind of cat?

We also have his sister .. Minnie, of course!

Don't argue with an idiot; people watching may not be able to tell the difference.

Hey,

I tried some more shots with Four Legged James tonight. James, unfortunately, is a bit more lazy than Cali and not as treat oriented. I did the best I could.

There are additional shots, including my first attempt at portraiture with a human and cat, in the Pet Photography Forum at NWP. It is not perfect, but it is a start.

As you can all see, the backdrop now needs a wash. :)

Thanks James! His sister, Minnie, looks just like him only her dark markings are somewhat lighter than his. But otherwise, they are alike. Believe it or not, our neighbor gave them to us...they were the last of a stray litter.

Hi Jeff,

Those shots are awesome - particularly the first two. Are you using flash to freeze the action or are you shooting natural light? I can see flash in the third one but not the first two.

Jim,

I had to think about it a lot, but I am fairly sure they are all ambient light. When they are out running around, it is too difficult to get a flash setup since I have non Nikon flashes. Without the SB-800 I am setting the exposure manually and, well with a moving target it would be too hit and miss, or just miss:) So yes, I get a nice sunny day, preferably late day and shoot away. I also like manual metering but that’s less important.
