d200 image is very disappointed.. it's very soft

I have the lens and I compared it to all my other lenses. It hardly satisfies me on my 4 mp D2H. On my D70 it was never really sharp. And the very same lens on a D2x can't produce more detail compared to a D70. This is a very bad choice to judge the sharpenss of a 10 mp camera.

Just look at the official sample photos fro the D200 and you will see that the camera is very sharp and has great detail

R1 shot has more high frequence detail too. What this means is that
R1 has a lens that's better than Nikon's 18-70. Nothing more
nothing less.

I have postprocessed both shots and R1 holds detail better and is
just sharper. There wasn't anything I could do with the D200 shot
to make it the same.
I didn't process the shots at all, so I can't argue with that. The R1 does have a better lens than the 18-70, and we don't really need any tests to tell us that. Lens don't get a T* rating if they suck. I'm sure a better match would have been the 17-55.

I was just commenenting on the obvious difference, that the D200 sharpens less by default.

As for the real world differences, there are none. A 16x20 viewed at a normal distance (3ft or farther) will look amazing from either of these cameras after a bit of carefull post processing (and well chosen in-camera parameters, or using Raw).

Hi Darrell,

Have you had a chanse to assess images properly on a PC screen?
If yes, how would you rate image's colour(hue) quality, compering to D70?
So far, I have not seen a good skin tone from availabe D200 images.

Also, overall domination of the purple tone in images is a little bit of concern.

I would appreciate your replay.

Cheers,
miro

You may not experience enough in the digital camera world, if you look well, you will see that D200 has noticeble better more dynamic range and the color is more correct ..

Take care

That we have a nice filled thread with lots of wild guessing.

That we have a camera with problable not the final firmware, that we have examples which are shot at different angles and zooms/distances

That I saw printed A4 size samples of the D200, which were very sharp, and that is waht FOR ME counts, and if someone wants to make a problem about some examples, or even many ON SCREEN examples which do not look sharp, it's excellent to me it gives lots of fun to read.

Wonder how far Phil will be with his excellent REVIEW of a FINAL production model of a D200

I suppose you meant "disappointing".

D200 is not a person, I think.

No..I believe that the as yet unreleased D200 is beyond mere personhood and has been elevated to the status of a Nikon diety come to save Nikonian's from that big, bad FF sensor maker: Canon. Sorry...I just came to troll a spell since our Canon 5D forum has been infested with Nikon trolls....

This may be the dumbest thread in the history of DPReview. How can the first utterly moronic post lead to this many responses. Geezus, DONT FEED THE TROLLS.......it wastes bandwidth.
