E-1 first impressions [long]

While I do agree that the user should have the option of pulling
the histogram up easier, it is not such a huge problem imo. I have
only had an E-1 a short time, so I am not totally used to the
cameras metering, but in time I think most users get to a point
where they know their camera well enough to make educated metering
guesses and not be pulling the histogram up for every shot.

I find I enjoy the noise at iso 100-800 as it adds a nice texture
similar to film. 1600 is not really bad either imo. 3200 I am
still deciding about simply because of the banding. I would use
them all freely however, but I am of the belief that a great image
is great regardless of noise. I think you shoot an image with the
iso characteristics in mind and work with that. The E-1 has not
really limited me at all in any reasonable shooting situation and I
shoot in seriously low light at times.

I just listed it as a thing that I'd like to be different. But it is not a big issue, for sure.

Maybe it's just a matter of habbit, because I always used to do it on camera. Camera shows flash EV comp. to you, it's harder to forget about it, someone mentioned that flashgun comp. doesn't enter into EXIF data.. But these are really minor things.

Last evening I used flash a lot, using also EV comp. here and there, and it was quite easy to use it.

Well, I never heard of it, that would be a real bummer. I can understand that who once experienced that would prefer side-clip caps.

I've seen better Nikon lenses with inside-clip design too, so it is possible to make it scratch-proof, for sure.

I'd either buy it, or just buy a 20-30$ UV filter and just leave it on, without the cap at all. The hood gives enough protection against scratching the filter against something directly.

Hi Danny,
I wonder if a lot of their testers weren't people used to film who
simply didn't care about on-camera review.
That is a very interesting idea.. I never used E-10/20, so I wonder did they used the same technique?
This is my one big hope for a firmware upgrade, though I'm not
holding my breath.
Well, me neither, but it'd be very nice.
You have a very nice website Danny, that viewfinder table was very helpful.
You seem to read quite a lot, I lost too much time just peeking around :).

Can be done in 3 (or 2 if you're already in play mode.) Check the
Well, immidiately after the shot you have to press the button to
enter the Play mode. That one counts.
In shooting mode, pressing "delete" will immediately show the last frame and the yes/no dialog; no need to press "play" first. (found this out long ago, by accident...)
