Amazing Circles (5 pics)

First of all, i want to thank Irene for "reaveling" her workflow !
You're more than welcome. Seeing all the fantastic pics wich have resulted from this thread, it's been worth it.
Now, i played a bit, but stopped along the way: i didn't rotate the
image, nor gave another "Distort" effect...
I like this effect. It's definitely different.
Here's the "original:

...and the manipulated result:

I quite like it... Proof that there are thousend things that one
can do with a good PP program !
Absolutely!

Thanks for commenting J.-P.
Cheers,
Irene

Thanks for the workflow, I have been having fun with this all day!

There are 14 or so on my Smugmug site now.

I am starting to work out which images work best (and which don't work at all)

I am very pleased with the way Duotone shots turn out - They look just like glass marbles.

Here are 3 more... I do like the last one!

Thanks again,

Westy

Thanks for posting that, but I'm having some problems getting it to work...

I've done the square crop, but when I got to Filters -> Distort, Polar Coordinates is greyed out.

Does anyone know why this might be ?

little different approach with no PP just a little kid blowing
bubbles ;)
Thanks for commenting. As usual, your pic is beautiful. Strangely enough I was also working on some water pics this week. Then I unintentionally discovered this post processing method.

Answering my own question here because I just worked it out :)

You have to convert your picture to 8bit before you can use this. It does not seem to be available on 16 bit images.

I didn't convert my picture to 8bit. I just did a double click on the crop and then put 1 in "width" and 1 in "height" in the fields above the crop.

However, the main things is you got it to work. Good luck and feel free to post an example. I'd love to see it.

Irene

Hi there,

Thanks a lot for sharing this. I've taken the liberty of creating a Photoshop Action for CS2 for this. Anyone who is interested can download it from http://www.penguinpowered.org/content/AmazingCircles.atn

Please let me know if this works as expected. The one thing I've done differently is that I am using a different method of rotate. Instead of selecting the canvas and doing a transform, I am doing Image -> Rotate Canvas. I don't think that this should make any difference.

Ginger, I followed the recipe and here's mine, does anyone recognise it?

My examples are quite dull, mainly because my photography is quite dull :)

I was mainly trying to get it to work so that I could create an action for other people to use on a square picture. Now when you have a square picture, you can just click once and all the work will be done for you :)
